SPECIALTIES

My specialties in running range from 5k to half marathon distances on road, trail and beach! I am keenly aware of challenges parents, busy professionals, weekend warriors, and Clydesdale and Athena athletes face. I have experienced the same and have learned strategies along the way to help athletes be successful in their journey and reach their goals whether completing their first mile or 5k, training for and completing a half marathon, or winning an event.

Additional specialties, include stability and balance training, strength training, and sports nutrition.

PHILOSOPHY

Whether you are just starting your journey or you are an experienced athlete, my approach is focusing on the individual athlete. I believe in seeing athletes as people first and understand each individual has a unique personality, learning style, cultural background, experience, etc.

Training should be developed for the individual athletes and follow an evidence based approach. SMART goals help athletes to be successful, see positive results, and make adjustments as needed. I understand there may be one method that works for an athlete, but doesn’t work for others. For that reason, as a coach I have found it is incredibly important to be adaptable, to listen to the athletes, and ensure we are on the best path to creating healthy and productive habits over time.

In training and competition I believe it is important to have fun, work hard and give your best effort! Some days may be more challenging than others, and that’s okay! It’s important to have fun and remember health and fitness is about the journey, and there are opportunities to complete events and competitions along the way.

COACHING EXPERIENCE

Over the past several years, I have helped friends and family achieve running, swimming, biking, and fitness goals. I have been a USA Swim Coach for a youth team, a soccer coach, and football coach. Additionally, I have put together and followed training plans for endurance and fitness events, including running, biking, swimming, and strength training.

ABOUT ME

I grew up and lived most of my life in Utah. In school, I mostly ran if I needed to. That was generally for sports such as basketball, football, and soccer. In high school, when I “got big” for football, I had a coach ask me if “my rolls could go with his coffee.” Since that time, I have also been told comments such as “you are not exactly built for running.” These types of comments while frustrating at first, fueled my desire to take health and fitness seriously and to prove naysayers wrong. That led to me completing several running events, triathlons, a few Spartans, and CrossFit events. I also really enjoy participating in Concept 2 challenges on the rower and bike erg.

Currently, I call Navarre / Navarre Beach, Florida home. I am married, have wonderful children and young grandchildren. My hobbies include health, fitness, nutrition, running, biking, swimming, paddle boarding, music, reading, and learning new things.

RACING HISTORY

I complete my first 5k in 1998! Since that time, I have completed several 5k, 10k, 12k, 15k, and half marathons. I have completed 2 full marathons and 2 Spartan races. In 2017, completed my first Triathlon – the Santa Rosa Island Try the Tri event. Since that time, I have completed several Sprint and Olympic distance triathlons. I have also completed the Great Floridian, a 70.3 (half) and Ironman in 2019. One of my favorite races in the Double Bridge Run (15k). I make it a point to complete it every year. My next distance goal, is to complete an Ultra!

Chad is great at listening to my wants and needs for running and adjusting each week’s schedule accordingly. He responds quickly to any questions I have and always gives constructive feedback after my workouts. His coaching is a perfect blend of pushing me out of my comfort zone, but not beyond my abilities.
