I don’t claim to have the fastest times, but I do know how to train, how to be consistent, and how to improve on speed and endurance. I have experience with everything from 5k road races up to a 100k trail ultramarathon. I can help beginners that need a walk/run program or who are transitioning to straight-through running, but I also can help improve speed and distance for intermediate runners as well through a variety of workouts. I have prior experience as a Licensed Massage Therapist and believe in (and practice) holistic approaches in conjunction with training such as yoga, strength training, proper nutrition, and chiropractic care. I have run through one pregnancy and completed marathons just over a year after having each of my boys. Finally, I can help those with chronic pain or illnesses learn to balance running alongside their medical problems, as I have dealt with chronic endometriosis, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, and other related issues for over 24 years.

I feel that in order to be good at something, or to really start to see improvements, it is extremely important to be consistent and to have self-discipline. However, I know that life can sometimes get in the way and that there are factors that may derail progress. Therefore, my job as a coach is to come up with a tangible plan that will set you up for success, no matter what your goal might be.

I like to think of myself as a very motivating person; I WANT to see you succeed! I also know firsthand that not everything will always go as planned, because that’s just how life is sometimes, but it is also the perfect opportunity to grow and learn. I believe that you have to fight hard if you want to improve, but also that sometimes the best thing we can do is have the support of others. As a coach, I will be your soundboard and biggest cheerleader! We will work through life’s ups and downs together!

Coaching for Team RunRun is my first formal running coaching role, but I have made running plans for several friends over the years. I am also the founder and administrator for a local, growing running group here in Dover. I help plan and facilitate group runs, get-togethers and workout challenges. My goal is to inspire and motivate those around me, because I know very well that we all have to start somewhere!

I come from a family of runners! Our mom is the only one that doesn’t run, but she is amazing and always provides us with the best crew support (and food!). I ran my first marathon with my dad and younger brother, and had the entire family there for my ultra. They encourage me to work hard and be the best person I can be. My husband and kids think I’m a little crazy, but they are always behind whatever decisions I make in life. Aside from my family, I love to watch athletes such as Meb or Shalane Flanagan. I also have learned a lot from the Hal Higdon walk/run method.

Over the past few years, I’ve been fortunate enough to have my older brother as my running coach.  Throughout this time, I have improved on many different levels, both mentally and physically, and I’ve done things I never thought I’d be able to do, so I understand how much having a personal running coach can impact your training ability.  He has pushed me to be a better runner, and to stop doubting my abilities, which is what I strive to do for my clients.

I am a wife of 14 years to an active duty Air Force member. We have two amazing boys that always keep us busy! I am a registered nurse currently working in pediatrics as a home health nurse and substitute school nurse for our district. I am also a choir director for our local church. I like to stay busy, and am constantly trying to learn new things! I worked as an LMT for several years but gave that position up when I had our first son, although I still remember all the techniques and oftentimes I “practice” on friends and family!

As for my running, I ran cross country and track in high school but did it more for the social aspect and to hang out with my brothers. After our first son was born I decided to train for a marathon to lose the baby weight, and successfully completed it when he was 14 months old. I ran my second marathon after our second son was born but then got out of it for awhile. In November of 2016, I had gained a lot of weight so I started a “running streak” and successfully made it to 266 days, along with losing 85lbs in the process. I took a few days off for surgery and then restarted a second streak on August 8, 2016; I am still going strong over 2 years later! While I have always been primarily a road runner, I have transitioned into trail running as well and have fallen in love!

I’ve run more 5k’s and 1/2 marathons then I can count, and 12 full marathons to date. The shorter the distance, the faster I am, but I have the endurance for longer distances and have improved my times over the past few years!

I stopped running 2 years ago because my schedule became so hectic. I have focused on my job and working toward a Masters and let my health slide. I have gained almost 50 pounds! It is so frustrating to not be able to run like I used to, but Emily has been so supportive and encouraging. Any other coach would have given up on me, but she has walked through the frustrations with me and celebrated the wins with me. Highly recommend her, especially if you are new to running or have taken a long hiatus and are nervous about getting started again.

Emily is a star! She is always reaching out asking how she can help, how training is going, what questions she can answer, etc… I would recommend her to anybody looking for a partner-coach to encourage you and get you moving in the right direction!

Emily has been my coach for a little over 2 months now. I started with her after completing an application on my phone that helped me learn to run for 30 minutes continuously. I was bored of the running and wanted to work smarter, not harder. I knew I needed a coach who would just tell me what to do to help me reach my goal of running a half marathon. Emily has been a great coach. She asks for my input, but also sets my schedule to be challenging enough so that I don’t slack off. I’m excited to see where this partnership goes in the long run!

Emily is fantastic! A couple months into my training with her I experienced 2 tragic deaths 2 weeks apart. Needless to say these tragedies derailed my training. Through this Emily has been so understanding and kind. Accommodating my schedule or lack of one! Encouraging me all the way.

Emily is a great coach. She worked with me allowing me to improve at my own pace and at the same time, encouraging me to raise the bar and run better every week. My running skills improved considerably thanks to her knowledge and coaching. Great communication and reliable.

Emily has been training me first almost one year. During this time, my mileage has increased from 20 miles per week to about 45-50 miles per week. She has helped me remain healthy through a 336 (currently) day running streak. My 5K time has improved by over a minute, and would be even faster if not for COVID. We are currently training for a December marathon. By training with Emily, I am confident I will attain my sub-4 hour goal.

Emily responds to my questions and listens to my goals. She has been instrumental in keeping me motivated and moving forward. At 60 years of age, I look forward to running with Emily as my coach for a long time.

Update 9/20/20: I have SO appreciated working with Coach Emily. Her knowledge of running, racing, training, and injuries has helped me improve my running in a myriad of ways. I even was able to get back to running after an injury under her guidance. I love not having to plan my workouts any more, because having her do it takes so much stress off of me and allows me to focus on running, nutrition, and strength work. I couldn’t be more happy to have Coach Emily as my coach and I envision working with her for a long time to come!

9/17/19: I am really happy with my decision to have Emily as my running coach. She’s prompt with my training plans and knowledgeable about running and training. She is also a great encouragement and very motivating for me. I highly recommend Emily as well as the community offered by Team Run Run!

Couldn’t even run more than 1.5 miles when I started with Emily. That was March 2019. April 19th 2019 I started with Emily and I am now able to run nearly 6 miles and it’s June 22, 2019! Very knowledgeable and encouraging without being pushy. 10/10 would recommend!

Emily has been amazing!! She manages to talk me down when I get too much in my head!! Always answers my questions quickly and honestly. Sends me weekly e-mails detailing my week and I usually talk to her either every week or every other. We are hopefully going to meet face to face this week so she can critique me 🤞 I am so glad I signed up for this service and chose Emily to be my coach/mentor/shrink/friend

Very good coach about to run my first 50k thanks to her I am much healthier at running and safer. Instead of doing it on my own I have someone now to help me follow through and stay on top of my workouts.

Emily is an excellent coach. Her enthusiasm for the sport is contagious. She’s helped me work through some disappointing injuries early on and usually knows what’s going on through my poor descriptions of what I am feeling.

Emily is easy to talk to and cares about me meeting my goal. She pushes when I need pushed and reigns me in when I start to loose my center and focus. She is experienced, knowledgeable and always available on the best and worst of days.

I know she will get me from a 5 to the 10 and just maybe a half, or however far I decide to go!

Emily has been fantastic keeping me up to date on my program! The goals are some days challenging, but they force me away from what I’m comfortable with in order to excel in areas I need improvement. Its been such a reward pushing myself and seeing my times improve and PR’s increase!
