PHILOSOPHY

I believe that every runner has more potential waiting to be unlocked. Whether it is running more mileage, taking just a few minutes off a personal record, or looking to lose some weight, with proper training every runner can make those improvements. I like to tell my athletes, “You can do more than you think you can”. Running can be hard, but it can also be fun and rewarding especially if you manage your training well and accomplish goals.

COACHING EXPERIENCE

I have coached road runners, trail runners, and runners of all distances from 5k’s through Ultramarathons. I’ve coached multiple athletes who had never run more than a half-marathon build up to running their first Ultramarathon. I have helped my athletes increase both their mileage and speed. I work closely with my athletes and develop individualized training plans that help them achieve their goals. I also work with my athletes on setting new goals and helping them continue to push their running capabilities to the next level. In addition to helping my athletes maximize their training I also help them with selecting races and race day planning and strategy. Additionally if my athletes have any questions related to gear such as hydration packs, trekking poles, shoes, etc. I am able to help them find gear that is best suited to their needs. I like to cover every aspect of coaching when it comes to my athletes.

ABOUT ME

I love trail running! Whenever I can I am out on the trails for a run or a hike. I also love the social aspect of ultras and trail running. Running with others is my favorite way to socialize and hang out. I also enjoy getting others into running and helping them into the sport. I love going to races and hanging with others in the running community. I have been running and helping out with Ultras since 2014 and have to say it is hard to find a better community of people out there than those I have met running.

BIG INFLUENCES

One of my largest influences is ultrarunning legend David Horton. He was a professor of mine and got me into the sport of running ultras. I learned many valuable skills from the years I spent running with him. When it comes to creating training plans I largely follow methods used by Jason Koop as well as others used by Killian Jornet.

RACING HISTORY

I have been running races since 2012 and ultramarathons specifically since 2014. I’ve raced on all terrain types, flat road, rolling hills, and technical mountain trails. I have done races in every season and weather condition imaginable.

I am beyond grateful to have Hunter as my running coach. I can confidently say that working with Hunter has been a game-changer and he has completely transformed my entire running journey! He has encouraged me to embrace trail running, which I now love, and has coached me to achieve distances I didn’t imagine were possible as a beginner; I’m currently training for my first 50k!

From the moment I started training with Hunter, I knew I was in good hands. He took the time to design a personalized training plan that perfectly aligned with my goals, abilities, and to strengthen my weaknesses. Hunter’s expertise and deep understanding of the sport allowed him to tailor my plan, which is extremely important to me due to my demanding and variable work schedule.

One of the most remarkable aspects of Hunter’s coaching is his unwavering dedication to his athletes. He goes above and beyond to ensure we stay consistent in our training. Even on the days when I lacked motivation, Hunter’s encouragement and support pushed me to lace up my shoes and hit the trails.

Hunter’s guidance, expertise, and communication extend far beyond the training plan itself. He helped me prepare for races, providing valuable insights and strategies such as nutrition, mental preparation techniques, or race-day tips. With his guidance, I felt confident and well-prepared in every race I have participated in so far! He is incredibly responsive and always makes time to address any questions or concerns I have. Coach Hunter’s thorough explanations of the workouts and the rationale behind them have enhanced my understanding of training principles, allowing me to make the most out of each session. I’m a nerd, so I greatly appreciate the details and technical conversations!

I cannot recommend Coach Hunter highly enough. Whether you’re a beginner, intermediate, or elite runner, he has the knowledge, experience, and passion to help you reach your running goals. Investing in his coaching services is an investment in yourself and your running journey. Thank you, Hunter, for being an incredible coach and for guiding me to new levels of achievement in my running!

I’ve been a distance runner for over 10 years and this was my first experience with an online coaching program. I’ve now been training with Hunter for a little over 2 months and can already notice the difference. Hunter designed a training plan specifically for me and my race goals. He actively updates and tweaks the workouts based on my needs. Every week he provides me with a description of the workouts and gives me the knowledge of why he has it planned. He is quick about answering my questions and he has been extremely supportive in all of my achievements. Hunter always goes the extra mile to make sure that I feel confident and comfortable during all my runs!

Hunter is a thoughtful, thorough, and responsive coach who cares about the whole person by tailoring my plan to my specific needs in many areas such as nutrition, performance, and mindset. As a ‘mature’ runner (in my 50-s) getting back into running after many years, Hunter inspired me to not allow anything to discourage my progress. In fact, Hunter’s own story is inspiring with how he got started having been fortunate to have been a student under the guidance of the ultra guru Dr. Horton. Before Hunter began to coach me, I tended to recklessly go “all out” to the point of injury resulting over time in a torn shoulder, a broken foot, and plantar’s fasciitis and would be tempted to psychologically shut down as a result. Hunter has coached me into recognizing a better balance to skill building that is based in careful research. He began my program with 2 foundational running weeks, then designed a long-term plan for me optimizing workouts in order to achieve my race goal. Since then, he has checked in with me after every single workout, reflected to me his analysis of the data, and recommended modifications as needed making sure to keep injury risk low while maximizing my running gains. Three years ago I was a 200+ pound couch surfer who could not run 3 miles. Last March (and 30 pounds lighter) I ran my first marathon in 4:20. This year with Hunter’s help I am on my way to running my first ultra 50K this summer. Whether you see yourself as an elite runner, an intermediate one (myself), or a novice – If you have the goal of becoming a better runner and getting the best performance out of it, I believe Coach Hunter (through Team Run Run) is the way to go and well worth the investment in yourself and the program!

I’ve been working with coach Hunter for the last 2 years. In that timespan, he has introduced me to trail running and coached me to multiple distance and mileage PR’s. This past year I ran a road marathon, two trail 50k’s, and a 100k. I was always a fit guy but I’d never consider myself a runner before meeting Hunter-I got faster and faster with each and every race! Coach Hunter has pulled something out of me that I never knew was there. I never thought I’d be able to run a 100k and I did so competitively (top 10) with the help of a formal training plan and coach Hunter’s intermittent guidance. He has helped me train slower, and increase incrementally as to avoid the pitfalls that catch a lot of novice runners. He has helped me with gear decisions. He has helped me improve mentally. He loves trail running and he knows what he’s doing. He studied under David Horton. He’s a student and fan of the sport of ultra running . The only thing I think he loves more than running is rooting for his runners and coaching them! I’m glad I’m working with him. You will be too!

Hunter is an awesome coach. I told him my history and goals before we got started. I get to speak to him weekly about the specifics of training blocks , scheduling with my demanding job and he’s been awesome at helping me find time for focusing on myself and my running. Talking with him about what the different training days look like and what they require along with why’s behind those training sessions has helped me understand how I will be able to use them to complete my 50k. I look forward to more training time and highly recommend his coaching to everyone!
