SPECIALTIES

I’ve worked with people running all distances, from the 5k up to the 100 miler, but my personal favorite races to train for are road half and full marathons, mainly because I love the bread and butter type of workouts, like tempo and steady state runs.

PHILOSOPHY

Consistency is Key. If you can keep up a running routine amidst the regular obstacles of life like work, kids, and sparse time and energy, you’ve already nailed a huge aspect of training.

ABOUT ME

I’ve been a runner ever since getting cut from every other sport in high school, and cross country was the one sport that everyone could join no matter what. That was back in the Fall of 1998. I remember the first time I ran 20 minutes straight; it was doing loops on the track, and I was euphoric with the fact that I ran that long. That particular day got me hooked on running. Since then running has been a big part of my life, being on teams in high school, clubs in college, and then constantly part of informal running groups since college, as runners seem to attract other runners. It’s like we have a running radar! It also helped I worked in a running store throughout college (Bob Roncker’s Running Spot in Cincinnati).

While I’ve raced distances from the mile all the way up to 100 miles, I’ve mainly run road half marathons and marathons (25+), and am still chasing that elusive marathon PR that I know I’m capable of, but have just never made it happen on race day.

My favorite part about being a runner is the community and the ability to make friends anywhere in the world through this activity. I’m realizing this more and more since coming back from not running (pregnancy), and I really miss the social aspect of running, from group runs, to group workouts, to races, to slogging it out in wet, Seattle nights around Green Lake, where only the hardcore runners are out there. Out of the friends we’ve made on our trips abroad, the best ones are the runners, and my most memorable experiences from traveling are races in other places.

RACING HISTORY

I really enjoy changing it up from roads to trail and back again, in distances from the half marathon up to 50 miles, and have completed over 25 marathons, five 50 milers, four 50ks, and one 100 miler.  

I’ve also had the unique experience of running and exercising through a full-term pregnancy, and then running again after a c-section birth, along with breastfeeding for the first year of my baby’s life. Lots of different clothing and bras in those couple of years!

    Working with Julie has been an excellent, high-value experience! As practically a beginner runner, Julie breaks my workouts down so that it’s easy to stay on plan. She’s responsive and consistent, and has already helped me be a better runner (e.g. no injuries) in a pretty short amount of time.

    Working with Julie has been great for me! Julie excels in being supportive and communicative – whether it is finding a run route for me while I’m traveling for work internationally, adapting workouts around work and life events, or responding to all of my questions and workout logs within a day. Her workouts are challenging but achievable, and after working with her for two months I PR’d a half marathon! She’s a strong coach who is really focused on developing her runners in a way that makes running fit with their life.

    I have been coached by Julia for about two months. She has gone above and beyond my expectations for a running coach. She maintains frequent communication and consistently tweaks my training plan according any changes that occur. It’s clear that she is thoughtful and dedicated to crafting a training plan for my success. Julia has also been supportive outside of my workouts through providing resources for gear and good running routes. I feel very grateful to have her supporting me through my training.

    I have been coached by Coach Julie for about two months, and it’s been awesome. Julie is a dedicated coach and a great communicator. While she helps me to push myself in each of my runs, she also teaches me to be mindful about my body to avoid injuries. Coach Julie is an excellent running coach who has helped me to be a better, efficient, stronger and faster runner.
