SPECIALTIES

In addition to being a Certified Run Coach, I am also a Certified Personal Trainer and Certified Strength Coach. This gives me extra expertise in being able to program strength workouts specifically for runners.

I’m personally most experienced in running 5Ks, 10Ks and half marathons and full marathons and those are the distances I most enjoy coaching clients to run.

PHILOSOPHY

I’m a huge believer that you should ENJOY your running! We may have goals that we want to achieve, and that’s fantastic, and I can for sure help you to do that, but I also want you to enjoy what you’re doing and not dread your training sessions!

I also like to remind my clients to keep a healthy balance in their lives between running and other activities / real life. I never want to push a client further than they are currently capable of. I’ll meet you where you’re at with your current fitness level / running experience and together we’ll build from there, always taking into account your lifestyle and your goals.

COACHING EXPERIENCE

I qualified as a running coach quite recently (June 2022), launched my own online run coaching and personal training business in January 2023 and am currently really enjoying training two online run clients.

While I may be fairly new to run coaching specifically, I have several years of experience as in-person Personal Trainer and Fitness Instructor. I first qualified as a Personal Trainer and Fitness Instructor in my native Scotland, UK in 2017 and worked on a mostly self-employed basis training several in-person individual clients and teaching a multitude of in-person group fitness classes until February 2020, when I moved to Colorado, USA. Group fitness classes that I taught included indoor cycling, circuits, Metafit and aquarobics.

I studied for and passed my USA Certified Personal Trainer and Strength Coach qualifications online during the pandemic in 2020. I have recent experience of in-person personal training here in Colorado, as I worked for a small private gym for several months in the second half of 2022 and had a roster of several clients who I trained individually on a weekly or twice-weekly basis, plus I taught a small group fitness class once per week.

ABOUT ME

I now live in Colorado but am originally from just outside Glasgow, Scotland, UK, where I started my running career at high school (many moons ago!).

My husband and I are ‘pawrents’ to two wonderful doggies, a miniature dachsund and a Border terrier!

In addition to running, my main hobby is art, which I’ve recently gotten back into again after a break of several years. I love to draw and I’m about to start painting again, and I’m finding that I love creating digital art too.

I’m also an avid reader, particularly of non-fiction (mainly memoirs and medieval / early modern history).

BIG INFLUENCES

My biggest influence in my running has been the running club that I trained and competed with back in Scotland, from 2015 – early 2020. The coaches there were excellent – patient, knowledgeable and with a sensible approach – and I was surrounded by fellow runners who were as enthusiastic about the sport as I am! I learned a lot about run coaching and what works and what doesn’t from training with this club (Bellahouston Harriers, Glasgow).

RACING HISTORY

One of my favorite races ever was my first full marathon in Belfast, Northern Ireland in 2016. I was very lucky and my first marathon experience was a great one. The weather was mostly great, Belfast is a beautiful city and the marathon course did a great job of showcasing so much of the city to us runners. This race will always be memorable to me too for the support from the spectators, who were so enthusiastic and encouraging. As this was my first marathon, I was aiming simply to finish it, although hoping for a time of somewhere around the 4-hour mark. The race went so well that I was absolutely amazed and delighted to finish in a time of 3:11:53! I in no way expected to run such a time for my first marathon and I was so, so happy!

Another memorable race for me was also in 2016, a 10k race back in Scotland. This is the only 10k race in which I have run a sub-40 minute time (39:46), and I will always be so proud of myself for that accomplishment!

Lynne has been an amazing run coach helping me train for my first ever marathon. She has been very patient with my million questions and requests. She is also very understanding of daily life and is always willing to help me adjust my schedule as I’m a full time working mommy of two. Not only does she make my run schedule, she also incorporates strength training and makes the workouts for me. She knew strength training has been as important to me as running. I did come across a slight injury and she helped guide me through it and suggested I rest instead of trying to complete every scheduled run for that week. She was also willing to send me extra stretching and strengthening exercises to help my hamstring that I injured. Overall, Lynne has been a god send during this training cycle. All the different runs and pacing she incorporates into my schedule have helped me become a stronger better runner and for that I’ll forever be grateful! The structure of her training plan has given me a piece of mind. When I first signed up for the marathon I had no idea where to start and then I saw a post that Lynne was offering a deal and I couldn’t pass it up! I knew Lynne has been a runner for a very long time and have always been amazed by her consistency and dedication to running! So signing up was a no brainer!
