PHILOSOPHY
CONSIDER THE WHOLE PERSON.
Everyone’s life is different and your training needs to fit your goals, your body, and your life. A training stimulus that yields great results for one person might not work the same for another. I approach each client as an individual, create an athlete profile, and build dynamic plans to fit with your life.
STAY CURIOUS.
You are capable of more than you realize and as your coach I want to help you approach training and goals with curiosity, not judgement.
DO THE THING.
Big wins don’t happen in a day, they happen after consistency over weeks, months, and years of doing the thing. I help my athletes continue to show up even when the training gets hard.
EMBRACE THE PIVOT.
Life happens and there are many ways to get to a goal. When things pop up in life, we pivot.
COACHING EXPERIENCE
I’ve been a running coach for 2 years, a yoga teacher for 10 years, and I’ve been leading running clubs for 15 years. I’ve coached athletes from 16 years old through early 70s.
I love coaching distances from half marathon to 100K, both on road and trail. Notably, I’ve coached athletes to several Boston Qualifiers as well as trail runners for both US and European mountain races up to 100K.
I’m also a volunteer coach for Free to Run and VICTA charity runners.
ABOUT ME
I’m Nicole. I’m a runner, a mama to 2 boys, and a coach. With a Spanish father and an American mother, I grew up embracing my mixed-culture. This experience shaped both my approach to life and coaching. People are multi-faceted, made up of all our own unique attributes and experiences. That is how I coach my athletes as well; no two people are the same so no two training plans can be the same.
In my 20s and 30s I had a career in tech, working for Google for 12 years. While still working in tech, I started teaching yoga in 2015. It took me a few more years to eventually make the leap, but I now teach and coach full-time.
These days my personal running is a mix of trail ultras and road marathons. I love spending a day in the mountains AND going fast on the roads.
I currently live in Gran Canaria, Spain with my husband and 2 boys.
BIG INFLUENCES
- Steve Magness: Your mental strength is just as important as your physical fitness. I think it’s important to consider the whole person to help each athlete to get the most out of themselves.
- Megan Roche: I love supporting female endurance athletes and focus most of my continuing education in this area.
- Haruki Murakami: Running is a personal journey for many people. I very much encourage my athletes to follow their own journey.
RACING HISTORY
Boston Marathon: This was my first race after having my first son. Even though it was not a fast race for me it was a huge win because I finished strong and it gave me confidence in my post-partum body.
Avalon Benefit 50K: Of all the races I’ve run, you can’t compare to the feeling of being among friends and enjoying a day out on some beautiful trails. I would go back to this race every year if I could.
San Silvestre Vallecana: Every year on December 31, people young and old run this race through the heart of Madrid. It is a celebration of the past year and a great way to ring in the new one.
