Lessons Learned from Race Reports

  • This course has changed since 2017, so because it’s the first year running this course, with a different start/finish location as the year prior, don’t be surprised if there are a few hiccups, such as not enough porta potties, traffic to/from the start/finish, and a late start due to last minute details
  • Some parking around Seattle Center, but it’s also within walking distance of a lot of downtown hotels, and the Monorail runs to and from downtown (Westlake Center) to Seattle Center (check if it’s running that early)
  • If traveling for the race, consider booking a hotel within a half mile of Seattle Center so you can just walk to/from the race
  • Fairly hilly course for a half marathon, ~800 feet of gain, with the biggest hill later in the race around mile 11, so be mentally prepared for it and be sure not to burn up all your energy early on
  • Both the Marathon and Half Marathon start at the same time and share the same course for the first 12.5 miles, so expect to be running around quite a few people who are continuing onwards (and pay attention to the split point around 12.5!)
  • With it being mid-June in Seattle, the weather could still be anything from 50’s and rainy to 60’s and sunshine, so be prepared for wet or warm weather

Type: Loop

Start/Finish Info: Starts and finishes at Seattle Center

Hills: ~70 feet from 1.5-2.5, ~90 feet from 6.8-7.5, ~140 feet from 9.8-11, several other 40-50 foot gains, particularly in the first half mile and the last half mile, and lots of little rollers

Course Map/Elevation: 823 ft gain/ 818 ft loss

Aid stations

Locations of water and electrolyte stations: Not yet noted on the race website where water and Gatorade will be, but given it’s a fairly typical road race, expect water and Gatorade at least every 2 miles, likely even more frequent later in the race.

Spectator access

Access Locations: Lots of spots for family and friends to see runners along the course. Have crew check the marathon course as well so they know where road closures will be, or consult the race website for road closure information.
