Running Coach Description

From marathon to first ultra. From road miles to trail adventures — and even multi-day endurance events.

I coach runners who are ready to level up — whether that means chasing a new distance, transitioning from road to trail, or building the durability needed to go longer than they ever thought possible.

My specialty is helping everyday athletes train like endurance athletes. That means smart structure, strength integration, aerobic development, and sustainable progression. Whether you’re preparing for your first 26.2, your first 50K, or a multi-day event, the focus stays the same: build the engine, protect the body, and stack consistent weeks.

As a UESCA-certified ultrarunning and endurance nutrition coach, I blend evidence-based principles with real-world practicality. I understand balancing work, family, and big goals — because I live it too.

If you’re ready to train smarter, stay healthy, and discover what you’re truly capable of over the long haul… let’s get to work.

Specialties

I coach athletes across a wide range of distances, from 5K to ultramarathon, with a strong emphasis on trail and ultra endurance. I work with both beginner runners building consistency and experienced athletes preparing for performance goals.

My specialties include strength integration for endurance athletes, injury prevention, post-injury return-to-run progression, and performance-focused nutrition strategies. I prioritize sustainable training that supports long-term development over short-term burnout.

Philosophy

My coaching decisions are guided by four key factors: the athlete’s goals, training history, lifestyle demands, and injury profile. Every program starts with the individual — not just the race calendar, but their stress load, recovery habits, and long-term vision.

I prioritize sustainable progression over short-term results. Endurance performance — especially in trail and ultra distances — is built through smart structure, strength integration, and intentional recovery. I continuously assess fatigue and adaptation to ensure we’re building durability, not just stacking miles.

The goal isn’t just race-day success. It’s long-term development, confidence, and athletic longevity.

Coaching Experience

I began formally coaching after earning my UESCA certifications, building on years of personal experience in endurance and ultrarunning. My coaching experience includes working one-on-one with adult runners ranging from beginners building consistency to athletes preparing for longer trail and ultra-distance events.

In addition to coaching adults, I have also helped support middle school cross country athletes, focusing on fundamentals, smart progression, and fostering a positive relationship with the sport. Working with youth runners has strengthened my ability to emphasize proper development, injury prevention, and confidence-building from the ground up.

Across all ages and abilities, my focus remains the same: structured, sustainable training that builds durability and long-term success.

About Me

Over 12 years ago, my running journey began during one of the hardest seasons of my life. After my daughter lost her leg in a four-wheeler accident, I needed something that grounded me — something that built strength physically and mentally. I started with a 5K, worked through every distance up to the marathon, and eventually found my true love in ultramarathons and endurance running.

Running became more than fitness — it became perspective, resilience, and growth.

Outside of coaching, I’m a full-time CNC machinist, which probably explains my appreciation for structure, precision, and process in training. I also work part-time at a running store in Nashville, where I stay connected to the local running community and help athletes find the right gear for their goals.

I’m a proud dad of two daughters (no, they don’t run… yet :). Family, grit, and long miles on trails pretty much sum me up.

If you’re looking for a coach who understands adversity, believes in earning progress, and truly loves the endurance journey — we’ll get along just fine.

Big Influences

My coaching style is influenced by evidence-based endurance principles and leaders in the ultrarunning space such as Jason Koop. I value structured, event-specific preparation while keeping training practical and sustainable for everyday athletes.

At its foundation, my programming emphasizes aerobic development, progressive overload, and intentional periodization — building the engine first before layering in intensity. I believe strong aerobic systems, smart mileage progression, and integrated strength training are the keys to durability, especially in trail and ultra distances.

While I appreciate the science behind endurance performance, I translate it into clear, simple guidance for athletes. Training should make sense, feel purposeful, and fit real life.

Consistency builds confidence. Structure builds resilience.

Race History

Some of the races that shaped me most weren’t the fastest — they were the longest and the hardest.
I’ve pushed through 24- and 48-hour events, covered 80 miles in a 48-hour solo race, and taken my longest effort so far to 112 miles. Those miles weren’t built on speed — they were built on grit, patience, and learning how to keep moving when everything in you wants to stop.

The Tennessee Mile (40-hour format), Firewater 100K, and Pistol 100K each taught me something different — pacing discipline, fueling under fatigue, and how to stay steady when things get uncomfortable.

Ultra running has a way of exposing your weaknesses. It also builds something deeper — resilience.

And I’m not done.

My goal is to go beyond 200 miles. I’m still chasing that edge, still learning, still testing myself. That pursuit keeps me sharp — not just as an athlete, but as a coach.

Because I know what it feels like to:
Start unsure.
Push past your limits.
And set a goal that scares you.

That’s the experience I bring to the runners I coach.
