Philosophy

My philosophy is that no two athletes are the same. I believe training should be individualized towards the athletes past experiences, goals, and overall daily life schedule. I also believe the athlete needs to enjoy the process of training in order to get the most out of it.

Coaching Experience

I have been coaching individual athletes for four years now. Additionally, in that time span, I spent one year coaching at the high school level, and am now going into my second year as an assistant coach at UNC Pembroke. I have had the opportunity to coach athletes trying to complete their first 5k, going for a Boston Qualifier, competing at the high school or college level, and everything in between.

About Me

I first started running when I was seven years old and haven’t stopped. Once graduating from college, I started focusing more on coaching and have developed a real passion for helping others attain their goals. Now, as a coach at UNC Pembroke, I enjoy getting to help athletes progress and succeed every day.

Big Influences

I have been influenced by many of the coaches I have been coached by, as well as those I have had the privilege to work with. My coaching style combines a number of the things I have learned and taken from them over the years. This has taught me that there is no one right way to train, that each athlete responds to training differently, and that there is “More than one way to get to Rome.”

Race History

I have been racing for fifteen years and have had the opportunity to compete all over the United States at different meets including at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships in 2023. I have competed in everything from the 800, all the way up to the half marathon, with plans for a marathon and a Boston Qualifier in the future.

Me and tanner have been working together for well over 2 years, i was a 5:26 1600m runner and a 11:34 3200m runner when we met. After complications in high school tanner and me decided to switch to the 800/1600, where in the time he helped me get my 800 from a 2:13 season opener to a 2:03 official indoor 800m time and a time trial of 1:59, he also brought my 1500 from 4:51 down to 4:23 in 5 months. Best Coach i’ve ever had 💯

Tanner has been working with me on my Marathon training and achieving my marathon goals, He coached me to a PR in the Berlin Marathon in ’24 and has been coaching me the past year as I prep from my 2nd Marathon Major, the Chicago Marathon. He is organized, thoughtful, positive, thorough and realistic in his approach to coaching. He provides real feedback and encouraging support when needed and knows the right things to say when motivation is needed as well. I have been very pleased with my time training with Tanner and will work with him as I continue to work toward my goals of competing in the 6 Marathon Majors.

I am an active duty Airman and began working with Tanner to help maximize my training for my PT tests. With his help I have already dropped over 30 seconds per mile and am on track to max out the test for my age bracket.
He has been very communicative and supportive, and is always willing to tailor and re-tailor my workout plans to accommodate my busy work and travel schedule.
