Running Coach Description

I’m a former University of Iowa middle-distance runner now training professionally. I coach track, cross-country, and road athletes competing from the 800m through the half marathon. My approach combines current exercise science, athlete feedback, and performance data to individualized training. I work especially well with high school, collegiate, post-collegiate, and sub-elite runners who want to understand their training and improve through consistent, purposeful work.

Specialties

Track, cross country, and road racing from the 800m through the half marathon, especially the 800m–5K. Developing youth, high school, collegiate, post-collegiate, and sub-elite runners; threshold development; pacing and race strategy; training-data analysis; and returning to consistent training.

Philosophy

The individual athlete comes first. I begin with the athlete’s goals, training history, schedule, injury background, strengths, and physiology, then build a sustainable plan around consistency and long-term development. I use current exercise science, athlete feedback, and performance data to understand how an athlete is responding and adjust the plan.

I am particularly interested in threshold-focused development and Norwegian-style principles, but I do not believe any single system should be applied rigidly. Training should create the intended stimulus without unnecessary fatigue. Clear communication, honest feedback, patience, and keeping the athlete healthy guide every coaching decision.

Coaching Experience

I am beginning my formal coaching career after years of learning within championship high school and NCAA Division I training environments. As a University of Iowa middle-distance runner, I worked helped my teammates on workout execution, pacing, race strategy, and recovery tips. My experience competing in track, cross country, and swimming helps me understand athletes with different backgrounds and ability levels. I am excited to translate high-performance concepts into individualized plans for developing runners.

About Me

I’m a former Division I middle-distance runner who now trains professionally and genuinely enjoys geeking out over everything running. I also love entrepreneurship and building technology. I founded Stridelane, a pacing-light company created to make professional-level pacing tools more accessible to runners and coaches. I’m competitive and detail-oriented, but I don’t take myself too seriously. I believe running should be challenging, rewarding, and genuinely enjoyable.

Big Influences

The high school and collegiate coaches who have guided my development; the training systems used by leading middle-distance and distance programs; Norwegian-style threshold principles; and current exercise physiology research. I am most influenced by coaches who combine science with the willingness to adjust a plan to the athlete in front of them.

Race History

One of my most meaningful racing experiences was leading off Iowa’s winning 4×800-meter relay at the 2026 Drake Relays. Contributing to a championship at the historic Drake Relays was an amazing experience.

Running 4:04.15 in the mile and 3:45.49 in the 1,500 meters in 2026 were also important milestones in my collegiate career. Those performances came after several seasons of steady development where I dropped 16 seconds over 3 years. At Johnston High School, I was part of a Class 4A team state championship, won an indoor 1,600-meter title, and helped set school records. Those experiences shaped my belief in consistency and executing the right plan at the right time.
