Philosophy

Life gets in the way sometimes. I get it and we have to be fluid with our decision making. Running is supposed to be fun, not a chore. It only takes 3 weeks to establish a routine, and once thats done, we are going to have so much fun getting fast and becoming the athlete I know is inside you.

I am adaptive, personal, and individual in my approach to coaching making sure you have a dynamic training block that fits your lifestyle and time constraints.

Coaching Experience

My experience comes from 10+marathons all sub 3:30 (except my first where I basically died), 10+ halfs, countless 10k’s, countless 5k’s giving me an intuitive understanding on how to build your training block from the ground up. I know what it takes to get across that line in a way that you will be proud of and will never want to take off that medal.

About Me

As with many people, Covid shifted my mindset and approach on life. Over 40, small kids, and going down nightly youtube rabbit holes, I was constantly tired, overwhelmed with life and misguided. So, I decided to start running, and it didnt take me long to go all in on my training. I’m a better husband, father and much better runner. But it didnt come right away, it took years of small incremental improvements, which taught me the most important thing, patience.

I am committed to the goals, and determined to make it happen, it’s not if just when. I still watch youtube though…..

Big Influences

Jack Daniels approach to endurance running, and my kids continuously asking me if I won the marathon.

Race History

Every race has had a unique learning experience for me but at the end of the day, you never forget your first….

Toronto Waterfront marathon I learned three things; One, I hate hills, two, Marathons are hard, and three, I want to do this again. Brute force and ignorance got me across the finish, but proper training and coaching brought me back for more. That marathon taught me it really was a test of mind over matter and tested me in a way I didnt think was possible. It taught me that you can’t just run raw kilometers without injury especially as a Masters runner, it takes consistency, discipline, and a lot of positive mindset.

and now here we are…..

    Sal –

I’ve been working with my coach for over two years, and I honestly couldn’t recommend him more highly! He has helped me cross the finish line of two World Marathon Majors and achieve huge improvements in my pace, performance, and overall confidence as a runner. He has brought out a level of ability in me that I never thought possible and given me a belief in myself that I never had before.
He is incredibly attentive, approachable, and always available when I need guidance or support. His positivity, encouragement, and ability to motivate me have made such a difference to my running journey. The results speak for themselves, and I’ve been genuinely impressed with how far I’ve come under his coaching.
I’m so grateful for his support and expertise, and I look forward to continuing to push my limits and achieve even more. If you’re looking for a coach who genuinely cares about your progress and helps you become the best runner you can be, I couldn’t recommend him enough! I have had two coaches prior to Matt and would never go back. Oh he knows what he is doing.
