Philosophy
My coaching decision revolve around three main points: enjoyment, consistency, specificity.
- Enjoyment: You are voluntarily training several hours or more each week. This should be fun! If you are not enjoying your running and the process of training, you are doing something wrong.
- Consistency: this is a runner’s most effective tool to improvement. Making sure that you are able to train consistently will be a focus with my coaching. I will make sure that you have a sustainable training load to train consistently and improve.
- Specificity: trail races vary significantly. From steep hills to gentle grades and technical trails to wide, smooth singletrack, there are many different conditions you will face at a race. I will build your training to get you ready for whatever is ahead at your next event.

About Me
Being outside on the trails has always been a big part of my life. I grew up hiking every weekend with my parents and brother in the Oregon Cascades and Coast Range. I started running trail ultras in high school and ran my first two with my Mom. Today I do 3-4 backpacking trips per year, run, mountain bike, and organize a weekly trailwork group which works on the trails around Corvallis, Oregon.
Big Influences
My Mom – I started running with my Mom and learned a lot from her experience. The biggest takeaway, “have fun.”
Tim Noakes – The Lore of Running was my first introduction to the science behind running performance. Understanding why training works is just as important and knowing what works because when you understand why, you can make adjustments to make your training more impactful.
Race History
I ran my first race at the 2009 McDonald Forest 15K. I did my first ultra in 2010 and have been running trail ultras since then.

I’ve had the pleasure of working with Andrew since January 2024. Needless to say, I have come a long way physically and mentally with my ultra race training since this coaching journey began. Andrew really helped me to build consistency with my running while making the training plans manageable and fun. I appreciate Andrew’s flexibility and understanding with my ever-changing night-shift scheduling. I look forward to our weekly phone calls where we discuss small and big goals both running and in life. It’s a blessing to have someone who has been through the ultra race world to help you problem-solve along your training path so you are as ready as you can be on race day. Choosing Andrew as my running coach was definitely a great life-decision! I highly recommend scheduling your consultation call ASAP!

I have worked with Andrew for the last couple of years! He has helped me through injury and health issues and helped me beat the time cutoffs in Oregon Cascades 100 last year! Unfortunately Mother Nature had other ideas and the race was stopped while I was running. I am stronger and healthier and excited for this racing season with Andrew’s help! His patience and my determination has us excited!

I have been working with Andrew for 4 months now in preparation for a 100k. He listens to how I am feeling and adjusts the schedule to help me improve. Since he is highly experienced in trail ultras, I wanted to work with someone that has done something similar to what I am about to do. I would not be where I am with him! He knows how to get people ready! I would highly recommend Andrew for any distance you are wanting to run but especially ultras!

Andrew had been a joy to work with. He has coached me for a couple years now. The process he uses to get me into shape and achieve my goals has been very approachable. It’s just steady progression and the results speak for themselves. I’ve been grateful for his motivation when things get hard, or when I feel inadequate. No matter your fitness level, he is there to get you where you want to go. I highly recommend him if you have been running for 20 years or 20 minutes. Let his expertise get you to your goals.

Highly recommend ! Have been working with Andrew for the past couple years and went from barely finishing to somewhat competitive. Anyone who wants to really level up their understanding and performance of ultras should give him a shot !!

Signing up to work with Andrew as my running coach was the best decision I could have made for myself – over a year of working with Andrew and I still believe this to be true. Andrew takes the time to work around my schedule and guides me through trainings that have allowed me to accomplish my goals without injury. Andrew is a delight to work with and will help you cross whatever finish line goal you have.

Andrew is a phenomenal coach and an amazing human being! I’ve been working with him for over 2 years and in that time I’ve made remarkable progress. With his help, I’ve become a stronger, more resilient runner capable of doing things that I didn’t think were possible. His knowledge and attention to detail combined with a generous personality and enthusiasm for coaching is priceless. I especially enjoy our weekly conversations where we catch up, chat about running and make plans for new adventures. He truly has become part of my trail family. Andrew has my highest recommendation.

Andrew is great to work with – he takes the time to listen to what is realistic for me and build the training around that. Thus far, his guidance has gotten me to the finish line of several 100 milers…with a smile on my face (which was the goal!). He brings understanding of training and racing, as well as compassion, to his coaching.
