Specialties

5K all the way up to, and specifically the Marathon. My broad spread of experience in the Marathon scene means that if you’re training for your goal marathon there’s a good chance I’ve ran it myself or heavily spectated the course cheering along one of my many other runners. I specialize and harmonize specifically best with runners who are ready to take the next step. Whether that be getting out of racing rut or taking your first steps towards something you never felt you initially capable. Running can take you to wild, unimaginable places. Let’s find a way towards it.

Notably, I’m very well qualified to talk the 6-Star World Majors Marathons. Anything from race preparation, running on the world’s biggest stages, race travel/logistics and everything in-between.

Philosophy

At the core of my methodology is a commitment to periodized training. This systematic approach ensures that athletes build a robust aerobic foundation before progressing to higher-intensity work, allowing for gradual adaptation and peak performance on race day. By strategically varying training loads and intensities, we minimize the risk of injury and overtraining, ensuring consistent progress throughout the training cycle.

I utilize key physiological metrics, such as heart rate zones and perceived exertion, to inform every workout. This data-driven perspective allows us to dial in the appropriate intensity for each session, whether it’s a critical VO2 max workout or a foundational endurance run. Just as important as the hard work, however, is the integration of purposeful recovery. I believe that rest is a fundamental component of training, and I work with athletes to ensure they are prioritizing recovery and listening to their bodies, allowing for true physiological gains.

Ultimately, my goal is to empower athletes to understand their own capabilities and cultivate a resilient mindset. The training is a partnership, and I am dedicated to providing the guidance and support needed to not only succeed in a single race but to build a strong, healthy, and successful running career.

Coaching Experience

Highly accomplished and certified running coach with a proven history of elite-level performance and a deep understanding of endurance training. As a six-star finisher of the World Marathon Majors and a competitor in over 20 marathons, I leverage my personal experience to develop and implement science-based, customized training plans for athletes of all abilities. I am dedicated to fostering a supportive and motivating environment, with a focus on holistic athlete development, injury prevention, and continuous performance improvement.

I’ve coached over 20 individuals aiming toward running their first race with goals specifically catered towards them. For some that’s finishing a 5K, going for a time in a 10K, trying to best themselves in the top half of a half marathon field or just straight up feeling good over the last 5 miles of a marathon. Some of them just need me to get them through a goal race, others I’ve seen grow over many years and phases. From their first hometown 5K to smiling ear to ear at the end of Boylston Street in the Boston Marathon. No one gets good at this sport by accident but those who desire to, do it with purpose.

About Me

I’ve been running competitively for over 15 years, starting in high school and continuing through college. I’ve had the privilege of racing for a variety of clubs and teams over the years, which has given me a broad perspective on different training philosophies and team dynamics. By day, I’m an electrical engineer at Gillette, but my passion for running led me to a part-time role as an associate community manager for Tracksmith. My fiancée and I have called Boston home for the past five years, and I’m very familiar with the city’s best routes, from the Charles River to the many trails in the surrounding area. This combination of athletic experience, professional life, and local knowledge allows me to connect with and guide a wide range of athletes.

Big Influences

First and foremost I’m a strong believer in ego. A persons sense of self importance and self confidence pushes me forward the most. One must build a personal fire to love running in a way that keeps them coming back. I’m inspired by the amateur, the grinders, folks who are doing running for their own purposes supporting their hobby in between jobs and families and life.

In a sense, running is an inherently selfish sport, you must do it for yourself, you’re the only person who cares as much as you do. The same people that love you at 6 hour marathon, are the same people that love you at 5 hour marathon, are the same people that love you at a 4 hours marathon.

My own mother comes and watches as many of my races as she can. She doesn’t know a single one of my times. She’s just knows I run fast. At end of the day, forget what the clock says. That’s good enough for me.

Race History

I started running middle school cross country almost two decades ago and haven’t looked back. From there I ran in high school and college only really hitting my stride post-collegiately in running clubs. I’m a strong proponent of running with like minded people even before running clubs were a hot fad. Club running helped me achieve many of my best races fitness and much of my running knowledge simply comes from those around. Any running club has decades and decades or experience built into. From there I got serious about running and really set out to chase the marathon, checking off other PRs along the way. Today I still spend the majority of my time in and out of marathon builds but admittedly have been angling myself more and more to be community focused and give back to the running community what it has given to me. You can grow old with this sport if you let it.

    Martie

I started working with Zach in October 2025 and it’s been great for my marathon training. I used to rely mostly on easy runs and last-minute cramming before races, but Zach introduced structure that actually fits my lifestyle and work schedule. Despite the big time difference (I’m based in Asia), he’s been incredibly flexible and accommodating, adjusting my program when life gets in the way without losing sight of the goal.

His workouts strike the right balance — mostly easy runs with just enough challenging sessions to build speed and endurance, all while keeping injury prevention in mind. In just two months, I’ve already seen improvements in my fitness and am hitting paces I couldn’t before, without burning out. Communication with Zach is easy, and he encourages detailed feedback after sessions to fine-tune the plan.

Zach is deeply knowledgeable about running and training principles, and it shows in how he builds the program. The tougher sessions he gives me are no joke, but they’re exactly the kind of challenge I need to get faster without burning out.

I’m grateful for his guidance and highly recommend him to anyone looking for a coach who is adaptable and effective.
