Jeff Rome – Silverton Running Coach

Running Coach Description
Silverton, CO running coach and resident Jeff Rome has multiple Hardrock finishes and he enjoys the process of training just as much as the races, and he’s excited to share his hard-won knowledge with other runners looking for their next challenge on the trail, or those runners just dipping their toes into new adventures. Reach out to Jeff below to get started!
Specialties
Mountains! Whether it’s a vertical kilometer or a hundred miles or something in between, mountains are what I love and live for. I hope to share my passion for ridgelines, the uphill grind, the downhill dance, and all those early and late hours of running with those I get to coach.
Philosophy
You should get more out of running than a time goal. Running is a practice that can reveal another side of life. Races are great, and having fitness goals are great, but what’s greatest is the hours and hours of training, where it takes you, and how it shapes you.
Coaching Experience
I am fairly new to this. I coached some friends while in physical therapy school many years ago. I’ve always had an admiration for running coaches and finally got the guts to get myself into this trade.
About Me
I live in Silverton, Colorado, and moved here specifically so I wouldn’t ever have to travel for Hardrock. My first summer here was spent in a tent that I moved around every couple weeks. I have a doctorate in physical therapy and worked as a PT for about three years before committing myself fully to Silverton. I enjoy linking up ridgelines and finding big loops in these here San Juan Mountains. I work full time for the Town of Silverton and am an avid board gamer.
Big Influences
Iten, Kenya. I was lucky enough to visit that town once for a few days and was amazed at how humble the world’s best runners are. I have never been dropped so hard on a group run before or had school children outrun me on their way to school. Nor had I ever seen track and field on nonstop in a restaurant before. Running is the life there. And no one there has a Strava account, because–I’ll say it–it doesn’t matter.
