Specialties

I love working with runners who feel “stuck”. Whether it’s from chronic injury, GI distress from running and exercise, or are in a slump in their running journey. I am a Kinesiologist, a Massage Therapist, and Nutritionists and an all-around nerd who loves science and problem solving. I believe in having a well-rounded life and finding a training schedule that fits into YOUR life, not altering your life to fit around your running. I like to keep things fresh, evidence based, and well rounded.

Philosophy

My philosophy in training is that it needs to be fun! If you don’t like your training plan, you won’t want to train. I work really hard to make sure that each personalized plan fits into the lifestyle of each individual runner. I do not assign any workouts that are not science backed and beneficial to your training goals and I absolutely do not over train you and drive you into the ground.

Coaching Experience

I have been coaching with Team Run Run since 2017 and have a background as a personal trainer in the gym world. I love coaching because I truly enjoy a 1:1 environment.

About Me

I live in beautiful Bellingham, WA which I LOVE! I love trail running, mountain biking, skiing and mountaineering. I thrive when I’m spending time outside with friends and family and eating good food. I have a Bachelors in Kinesiology from Western Washington University and Certificate in Massage Therapy. I started my business The Bodywork Wellness Studio in 2018 and have been seeing massage patients ever since. I do a lot of work with gate analysis and movement patterns in my practice, which translates a lot to my coaching. I also have a Master of Science in Nutrition from Adelphi University. I love helping “real life nutrition” blend with sports nutrition and finding the perfect balance for maximum enjoyment while eating and finding the healthiest diet which provides maximum performance ability.

I started running when I was little to hang out with my Dad. He used to take me for a 10 minute run around the block before going off on the rest of his run. Running is something that he and I have always shared, which is really special. I went on to run in college at Western Washington University where I ran the Steeplechase, 1600 and 5k. I loved racing around the track and I still do, although I don’t spent to much time on the track these days. My love for running has morphed a lot over the years. I transitioned to trail races which brought a more playful and adventurous aspect to running. It’s also taken me all over the world to run trail races (like a 5-day trail race in Slovenia) and do go on fun adventures that bring in hiking and running.

When I’m not running or doing other outdoor activities, I love to read and cook and hang out with my Husband, Jason, and my 2 dogs, Birdie and Daisy, and our cat Cheeto. Jason and I love traveling, going on road trips, doing trail work and getting out with friends and family.

Big Influences

The biggest influences in my coaching comes from my college coach David Burnette. He blended personal motivation with science backed training. He was equal parts a cheerleader and pushed me when I really needed it. His influence filtrates into my coaching through my high attention to creating a personalized plan. Each person has different motivational factors, lives different lives and have different goals. I really enjoy having an intimate coaching relationship with my athletes that feels fulfilling and motivating while keeping my athletes injury free!

Race History

Racing! I love racing! The environment is so fun and the feeling of pushing yourself and working towards a goal is amazing! My racing career started in High School where I ran track and cross country. I went on to run the Steeplechase in college and cross country. I was a 7X All-American in college then continued racing steeplechase until 2016. After college I was in a running slump for about 2 years until I found trail. Wow, I love trail! I signed up for my first 50k in 2018 and it was a total flop. It took me about 1.5 years to finish a 50k, but once I did, I was hooked. My biggest accomplishment in trail is winning the Ultra X World Championships in Slovenia. This was a 5 day stage race where training, recovery, and nutrition was very specific. And on a side note, Slovenia may be the most beautiful country in the world!

My favorite races are all the Rain Mountain races, the Chuckanut 50k, Canyons, and the stage races put on by Ultra X.

Katelyn has reinvigorated my passion for running! She holds you accountable in the most positive way and is in constant contact to ensure you are feeling successful, even on not so successful days, she is a beacon of encouragement. Her ability to create a personalized schedule that fits your needs is incredible, I never thought I would be able to run like I do now. She keeps the workouts interesting and includes strength training and yoga within my weekly routine. She is an awesome coach and I am so grateful for her! I thought I would only want to have her coaching services for a couple months… but I don’t plan on stopping them anytime soon.

Entering my third month of coaching with Katelyn and I couldn’t be happier with her approach and customized plan for my busy lifestyle! Katelyn developed a realistic plan for me, including a variety of workouts from long runs to track and hill workouts. Most importantly, she helped build it around my schedule, and the results have already exceeded my initial goals! As a semi-regular runner beforehand, I lacked the discipline to measure myself consistently and be accountable with someone. Working with Katelyn I’ve found a renewed passion for running and being intentional about it! She created a varied and perfect plan to accommodate all the other outdoor activities I enjoy, while still setting me on a path towards achieving my racing goals.
