Specialties

Road Racing:

As a road racing coach, I specialize in helping runners of all levels achieve their personal bests in races ranging from 5Ks to marathons. My tailored training plans are designed to enhance speed, endurance, and race strategy. By focusing on proper pacing, efficient running mechanics, and mental preparation, I ensure that my athletes are well-equipped to tackle the unique challenges of road racing.

Strength Training:

Strength training is a critical component of my coaching philosophy. I incorporate customized strength workouts that not only improve overall athletic performance but also reduce the risk of injury. My programs are designed to build core stability, muscular endurance, and power, contributing to a more balanced and resilient runner. Whether you’re looking to improve your sprint finish or maintain peak form throughout a long-distance race, my strength training routines will help you reach your goals.

Injury Prevention:

Preventing injuries is paramount to sustaining a successful running career. I employ a comprehensive approach to injury prevention that includes mobility exercises, and proper recovery techniques. Through ongoing education, I help my athletes maintain their health and continue training effectively.

By combining these specialties, I offer a holistic coaching experience that not only pushes you to new heights in your running performance but also ensures you stay strong and injury-free along the way.

Philosophy

My coaching philosophy centers around a holistic and individualized approach to running. I believe that every athlete, regardless of their experience level, deserves a training program tailored to their unique needs and goals. By integrating the key components of road racing, strength training, and injury prevention, I strive to develop well-rounded, resilient, and high-performing runners. Every runner is different, and so is their path to success. I focus on creating customized training plans that consider your specific goals, fitness level, and life schedule. This personalized approach ensures that you not only improve your performance but also enjoy the journey.

Coaching Experience

With nearly 15 years of experience as an exercise physiologist, I have developed a deep understanding of human physiology and biomechanics. This foundation has been instrumental in my approach to coaching.

High School Coaching

I have spent significant time working with high school cross country and track athletes, focusing on enhancing their performance through targeted strength training programs and comprehensive injury prevention strategies. My work with young athletes has not only helped them improve their running capabilities but also instilled in them the importance of maintaining a balanced and healthy training regimen.

RRCA Level 1 Certified Coach

In pursuit of furthering my expertise, I obtained my RRCA Level 1 certification. This certification has allowed me to expand my coaching services to a broader range of athletes. I have successfully coached beginners who are new to the sport, guiding them through the fundamentals of running and helping them develop a passion for the activity. Additionally, I have trained seasoned runners preparing for intense trail races and marathons, providing them with advanced training techniques and race strategies to excel in their events.

My diverse coaching experience enables me to cater to athletes of all levels, ensuring that each individual receives the guidance and support they need to reach their full potential.

About Me

Running and leading an active lifestyle have always been integral parts of my life. My interests span across running, enjoying the outdoors, participating in various sports, and maintaining overall fitness. Before 2020, I was an avid racer, constantly pushing myself in competitions and enjoying the thrill of the race.

In 2021, my life took a wonderful turn with the birth of my first daughter, and just six months ago, we welcomed our second daughter. While I don’t race as frequently as I used to, I still dedicate myself to training seriously for at least one major race each year. This balance allows me to stay connected to the sport I love while embracing the joys and responsibilities of parenthood.

Becoming a parent has given me a newfound motivation to support other parents in achieving their fitness goals during significant life changes. I understand the challenges that come with balancing family, work, and personal fitness, and I’m passionate about helping others find that balance and thrive. Whether you’re a seasoned runner or just starting out, I’m here to guide and encourage you every step of the way.

Big Influences

I did not run competitively in high school or college, but ran to stay in shape for soccer and wrestling. As a successful wrestler, I’ve been fortunate to have coaches who left a lasting, positive impact on me in Dan Spilde and Bob Empey. These two stand out because they were patient, genuinely cared about my best interests, and consistently put me in the best position to succeed. They didn’t just tell me what to do; they guided, supported, and coached me, always focusing on my development rather than asserting their own expertise.

These experiences have shaped my own coaching philosophy. I strive to emulate these positive influences by being a patient and understanding coach who prioritizes the individual needs and goals of my athletes. I believe in creating a supportive environment where runners feel encouraged and empowered to achieve their best. My approach is centered on collaboration and guidance, ensuring that each athlete feels valued and confident in their journey toward success.

Race History

My racing journey began after college when I decided to enter a few small 5Ks, being in shape from years of running as a means to stay in shape for sport, I placed very well in some of these races. As someone who has always been highly competitive, I fell in love with running for its unique challenge: the ultimate competition with myself.

This initial spark led me to gradually increase my race distances. I moved from 5Ks to 10Ks, and from there, progressed to half marathons. Each step up in distance brought new challenges and new goals, further fueling my passion for the sport.

Eventually, I took on the marathon, a distance that truly tested my endurance and determination. To date, I have raced six marathons, and I am proud to have qualified for the prestigious Chicago Marathon twice. Each race has been a learning experience, contributing to my growth as both a runner and a coach.
