SPECIALTIES
I have experience coaching all distances and speeds… and love the variety! I have a lot of personal experience with coming back from injury, so feel very knowledgeable on cross training and returning from injury. I’ve raced on the track, roads, and trails so also have personal experience/knowledge on racing on these surfaces. Since I started coaching, I’ve helped a variety of clients PR all the way from high school to the masters division.
PHILOSOPHY
- Hard days hard, easy days easy
- It’s important that training fits around your lifestyle and when creating a plan for a client, it needs to take into account their other life stressors.
- There’s no “one size fits all” model when it comes to creating a plan – each client has different strength and different weaknesses and those need to be identified and worked on effectively for a plan to be successful.
COACHING EXPERIENCE
Aside from being a professional runner for the last 6 years and learning a great deal through that (as well as my college experience), I have over 4 years of my own coaching experience. I’ve also received my advanced apprenticeship in sporting excellence in England.
ABOUT ME
I love to oil paint when I’m not running! I believe life is about balance and it’s important to foster other passions, aside from running, especially to help in times of injury. If training becomes too “all consuming” that’s when pressures start to mount up, so I think it’s important to try and have a good life-running balance. Oh, and I’m originally from England so have a good sense of humor 😉
BIG INFLUENCES
I’ve taken a lot of inspiration from previous coaches such as Joe Franklin and Dave Walker, as well as successful British runners such as Paula Radcliffe and Kelly Holmes. A few training mottos I coach by include: “running doesn’t have to be complicated” and “hard days hard, easy days easy.”
