Specialties

I am here to serve all athletes. Whether that be to complete your first half marathon or nail down that Boston Qualifier time, I am here to help you succeed,

As a physician assistant and masters runner, I have years of experience and an in-depth knowledge of human physiology. A lot of running is science, but the art of the sport is you. People first, athlete second.

  • A Holistic Approach
    • For an athlete to be truly successful, it takes more than just miles. In fact, running often makes up a small portion of our day. My coaching focuses on more than just run training—I emphasize strength work, race-day nutrition, and recovery. Each athlete receives a personalized plan because no two individuals are the same in their abilities or the constraints of their lives.
    • With years of training, competing, and coaching, I bring the experience needed to see every athlete as an individual with their own unique needs.
  • Training System
    • I use the VDOT training system, a leading platform for coaches and athletes. All workouts and notes are stored online, accessible from your desktop, phone, or even synced to many GPS watches. VDOT fosters interactive communication between coach and athlete, making it easy to provide feedback and track progress.
  • Strength Training
    • Strength is integral to keeping you healthy as a runner. I focus on runner-specific strength training to help prevent common injuries. As a physician assistant, I have an in-depth understanding of the body and running-related injuries, ensuring strength work is tailored and effective.
  • Recovery
    • Recovery is often the least talked about but most critical aspect of training. I provide guidance on recovery methods and strategies to help you maximize the benefits of your hard work.

Philosophy

Coaching, like shoe selection, is specific to each athlete—there is no one-size-fits-all approach. Training plans should be tailored to the individual, considering not only their athletic goals but also the realities of their lives beyond running. I prioritize the person first and the athlete second, fostering a holistic approach. When you trust the process and believe in people, they are empowered to achieve success.

Coaching Experience

I have been coaching for the past 4-5 years with a few athletes. Mostly locals who know me and have trusted me to help them achieve their goals. This has been “complete my first marathon” to “I want to get my BQ”. I have helped many runners achieve their goals while keeping health as the first priority.

I have helped at local high school running camps and have been a guest speaker. It has been enjoyable to help the youth discover the love of the sport.

About Me

My athletic journey began with soccer, where I was an avid ball chaser through college. My love for running came later when a friend signed me up for a half marathon. After that race, I was hooked. Twenty years later, my running career has been filled with miles, challenges, and growth. From competing in masters national 5K championships to narrowly missing the Olympic trials standard in the marathon, I’ve had the privilege of experiencing the highs and lows of this sport.

Running requires focus and dedication, but it’s equally important to embrace who we are beyond the sport. For me, that means being a physician assistant, flower farm owner, and dog mom. Balancing my roles as a professional and business owner has taught me how to integrate running into a busy life while continuing to pursue success. While most of us may not have the luxury of dedicating our lives solely to training, we can still share the same passion for running and its ability to inspire and transform.

Big Influences

John Devenere. The friend who decided to sign me up for a half marathon when I had never run more than 3 miles. He and his wife were persistent and knew I would love it. Well, they were right. To this day that might the sorest I have ever been, but one of my most memorable experience. John has since passed away in a tragic ski accident. I am thankful he shared his love of the sport with me.

Race History

My racing history focuses mostly from 5K-marathon with some shorter trail stuff mixed in occasionally. My favorite distance are the half and full marathon marathon. I have raced in numerous elite/pro fields at large marathons such as Boston, Chicago, California International, Detroit and so on. If setting a time goal or qualifier is what you have in mind, I can help you achieve this.

Boston! Yes this was a bucket list for me. I tried to qualify 3 different marathons and failed, once I had the training and support from Amber my dream became a reality! Amber worked with my age and ability to create the perfect balance of strength and cardio to bring me to victory! Thank you coach for not only believing in me, but helping me believe in myself.
