SPECIALTIES

Are you new to running? Maybe you’re looking to move to a new distance for your next event? Perhaps you’re getting back into running after a break? Let’s chat – I’d like to help.

I specialize in distances up to marathon on road and have experience in longer distances on trails.

PHILOSOPHY

Running might not always be easy, it’s sometimes ugly but it should always be fun. I believe in consistency being the cornerstone of running.

Every runner is an individual, has specific strengths and different requirements and as a middle of the pack runner, I look for value in the training process and not just the finish line.
Anyone who runs is a runner and ‘forward’ is a pace.

COACHING EXPERIENCE

The start of my coaching career is rooted in my desire and enjoyment of giving back to the running community. Over the years, I’ve coached friends and family through 10K events and up to half marathons. In addition to this, I’ve been coaching in a locally in a group environment in San Francisco over the last few years.

ABOUT ME

I’ve lived in San Francisco since 2010 and when I’m not running, I enjoy reading (and listening to) books, playing video games, obsessing over running gear and planning ‘the next big adventure!’

BIG INFLUENCES

I’m constantly in awe of incredible achievements by ultra runners such as Dean Karnazes, Courtney Dauwalter and Sally McRae to name a few. As a student of the sport, I’m constantly seeking new learning opportunities and ways to improve so that I may share those more broadly in the community.

RACING HISTORY

I started running in 2020 and signed up for my first half marathon event in the same year. Since then, I’ve run my first marathon (San Francisco) in 2022 and my first Ultra (Skyline 50K) in 2023. In 2024 I completed the Big Sur International Marathon, the Broken Arrow 46K (in Tahoe) and the Spartan Trail Golden Gate Classic (50K).

I also became formally certified as a running coach in 2024.

Having missed out on running early in life, only discovering my passion for it in recent years means that many of my lessons learned are still fresh in my mind!

Brian is a fantastic coach! In a few short months of training, I’ve learned more about the sport, developed my strengths, and conquered my weaknesses. Always empathic and encouraging, Brian works to find training plans and styles that work, and he isn’t afraid to pivot and adapt as needs arise. Running isn’t just about finishing races or chasing medals, and Brian has helped me foster a deep respect and love for running in the long term.
I highly recommend Brian to newbies and seasoned runners alike if anyone is looking to push themselves and set and achieve some amazing goals.
