SPECIALTIES
Prior to Team RunRun, I have experience in coaching track (400m-3200m), cross country, road racing (5k up through marathon). In addition to all mentioned distances, I also have personal race experience in 50k trail and mountain races. I have coached youth beginners, adults beginners, and elite youth. Some of my athletes have gone on to compete for top NCAA D1 track and cross country teams, while others have crushed goals of running their first marathon as a new parent.
PHILOSOPHY
All humans are made to move, so whether you are an elite runner chasing olympic qualifying standards or you are an average Joe wanting to train for your first 5k, I am the coach for you. I believe in a well rounded approach to running. Finding balance between diet, training, work, and personal life is essential because running is a life enhancer. I believe the best coaches can effectively bridge the gap between your current reality and your personal dreams. I also believe that a good coach adapts to each individual. While training principles largely remain constant, each individual is unique and responds to different elements of training in different ways. Understanding these differences is essential to reaching excellence as a coach and athlete.
COACHING EXPERIENCE
I have been a coach for the last 15 years. I spent time at the University level as a coach-athlete, where I participated in the University Triathlon program as an athlete and as a co-coach (specializing in cycling and running). I have coaching high school cross country (9th-12th grade) for 8 years, and have coached adults on and off for the past 5 years. While most of my experience has been with youth (either in high school or shortly after graduating), I have a passion for coaching all ages and helping everyone find joy in a beautiful sport.
ABOUT ME
In addition to running, I have coached and played lacrosse (played boys, coached girls) for much of my life, and find joy in the pursuit of excellence of team sports as well. My career is in education, where I am currently an Assistant Principal of a large public high school.
BIG INFLUENCES
As a runner, I have been coached by both Jared Ward and Hayden Hawks. Both have different perspectives and approaches that have helped shape the athlete and coach that I am today. I also love learning from leaders and coaches from other areas of life. Some of my recent learning experiences have come from authors Kara Goucher, Ryan Hawk, Damon West, Lopez Lomong. Some of my favorite coaches to learn from are Jared Bednar, John Calipari.
RACING HISTORY
Most of my personal efforts have been focused on marathon + distances. Here are some of those races that I have personally completed within the last 5 years: Boston Marathon, St. George Marathon, Longview Marathon (CO), Leadville Trail Marathon, Exmoor Trail Marathon (UK), Salt Lake City Marathon, Speedgoat 50k, Desert Rats 50k, Arches Trail Marathon, Big Cottonwood Marathon, Mt. Charleston Marathon.
