Running Coach Description
Every athlete is a different person. Each a different puzzle and each desiring a different attribute to receive in their running pursuit. I can help any athlete create individual training plans tailored to specific needs and wants. No one gets recycled plans from me. My best events to coach are the 800m, 1500/mile, and 5K but I can coach well up to the 10K and anything in-between. I want to give any athlete I coach the combined power of my nearly 14 year experience running and 3 years experience coaching high school sports. This involves keeping runners healthy and injury free with tips and tricks and helpful plans for athletes to execute to.
Specialties
I specialize training athletes on the track from the 800m to the 5000m events. On the road and Cross Country style or trail races I specialize in training from the 5K to 10K.
Other aspects of running I specialize in is injury prevention and helping athletes incorporate strength/weight training.
Philosophy
I have two core tenants of coaching:
- Keep athletes training by preventing injuries stopping training. I’ve spent my fair share of time injured and on the bench and from my 14 years of competitive running, I’ve learned a lot on how to stay consistent and healthy. I want to bring this knowledge to any and all of my athletes.
- Help athletes get out what they want in their training. I’ve worked with men and women with all different and individualized goals. Whether you are looking to compete or set a new PR, get and stay in shape, brand new to running, or need help incorporating strength training I aim to get you there!
Coaching Experience
I’ve spent the past 3-4 years volunteering and officially coaching at Marysville Getchell High School and Mariner High School for their Cross country and Track programs. I have coached men and women for single years and multiple years in a row. I’ve coached everyone from State athlete qualifiers to those who are breaking into running for the first time.
About Me
Hi my name is Gregory Panther and I’m a long time runner and frequent coach based out of the Seattle Washington area. I’ve run just about my whole life and competitively for the past 13 years. I’ve run cross country and track from middle school through college, where at West Virginia University Institute of Technology, I received a scholarship to run. Now 3 years after graduating I run with Club Northwest out of Seattle, WA where I still actively train and compete year-round. I also coach high school cross country and track and volunteer at meets.
Big Influences
My biggest influences were my high school and college coaches. Each one taught me invaluable knowledge about running and staying healthy while I do it. It changed my outlook on running to more of a lifestyle rather than a hobby.
Race History
I’ve raced a lot but one moment that sticks out to me the most in my career is a long run I did one Saturday the last season of my college cross country career. It was a 15.21 mile long run and I felt incredible, averaging paces I never thought I could. It felt like an acumination of all my years running put into a single day. To this day I don’t think I have ever felt so fresh, fast, and fit in my life. It was an incredible sensation that has stuck with me ever since it happened.

Coach Panther has been one of the best coaches I’ve had in my 7 years of running. He gave me a very consistent training plan that aligned with my goals, and always monitored my progress so I can stay accountable. He motivated me whenever I needed it and I always felt accomplished after every workout.
