SPECIALTIES
I have worked with beginners on their first day of running, skilled experienced vets that are looking for more personal bests, and of course many intermediate runners as well. I focus on the physical needs of the runner, and put an emphasis on a great mental outlook towards training and racing.
As a runner and coach, I have always wanted to have the best range in my running and coaching philosophies (from 800m to the Marathon). I specialize in track, road running, trails, and marathon training. And I have coached all of those specialties with excellent results. I enjoy coaching, and having fun with different runners with varying different needs. My focus is on your goals, success, and your enjoyment.
I help with all aspects of running: getting in shape, race strategy, goal setting, stretching, nutrition including before and after run intake, proper gear, recovery, great mental attitude, how to prepare for a race, plus more.
PHILOSOPHY
All runners are different, and need training specific to their needs. My main focus is on you. As a person and an athlete, and gaining what you are seeking in your routine and lifestyle. I learned from a famous coach at a running Camp when I was 9 years old, you never know everything. Always keep learning. I have coached that way for over 30 years. I understand and coach with many different styles, and I find the one that fits you the best. And I’m still learning! I help athletes with their physical and mental approach to training. To me, as a coach, the mental side is the most important to get correct.
I focus on great communication and relationship with you as a client. I let my athletes clearly know their workouts, why they are doing them, and what we are trying to accomplish with every run. I make sure you are mentally and physically doing what is best for you during your training process.
COACHING EXPERIENCE
After college, I had been coached by some of the greatest coaches in the world. I thought if I kept that knowledge to myself that would be selfish of me, so I definitely wanted to give back. I started coaching high school athletes with many state championship results, but I cared about every kid on the team even our slowest ones. I want to help everybody, no matter their speed level or ability. I have coached and mentored many different athletes. I’ve athletes from HS to college, adults, and even I trained, for the time I was there, the best Youth CC team in America.
I believe my success as a coach comes from my athletes understanding and believing in me, the fun that comes out of it, and the results speak for themselves! I believe Happy athletes can attain their goals that fit their needs.
ABOUT ME
I am a father of 3 sons and a 4 legged pup named Rocky. I started running when I was 7 years old when my friend Across The Street kept flying all over America to track and cross country races. And I said I want to join the team! Did very well, even on some youth national championship teams. Then ran in high school wan some big school state championships and state records. Ran at the University of Arkansas where I was an Outdoor 5k All-American and on 6 NCAA Championship teams. I still win my age group in the local Turkey Trots.
2 of my sons are runner, the oldest ran in college, and my middle son is a long distance swimmer in college. When not running or swimming we love to get behind our boat and do some wake surfing and wake boarding. Plus I get out and play some golf. when not thinking about running I am a commercial contractor, which I definitely enjoy.
BIG INFLUENCES
I ran at the U. of Arkansas for 4 years under John McDonnell, who I think is the greatest NCAA coach ever. He coached 40 NCAA Championship teams in CC, Indoor and Outdoor Track, the most ever for a D1 Coach. I was on 6 of those teams. I learned firsthand everyday knowledge from him. But I have also learned from many other great coaches as well. I have done countless intervals and training runs with All-Americans, National Champions, Olympic Gold medalists, and even the first man in the world to break 27 minutes in the 10k, former WR holder Yobes Ondieki. Ran under Said Aouita as well. And of course my father was track star himself.
RACING HISTORY
My favorite race was winning the NM big school 3200m State title as a Sophomore in HS. It was my first State title, and the cool thing is my Dad won the 880 State title as a Sophomore, and the even cooler thing is my son won the big school 1600m State title as a Sophomore as well! Yes it runs in the family.
I made it to 3 NCAA Championships, but my favorite was when I was 1st Team All-American in the 5k in Eugene, Or – Hayward Field. I was lucky to pick up a lot of wins, I always love racing.
