Running Coach Description
I coached programs to the highest levels of success in Vermont. Currently, as the Head Track & Field Coach at St. Johnsbury Academy, I led the Boys team to the 2026 Vermont Indoor Track & Field State Championship and guided the Girls team to a 3rd place state finish. My coaching has directly resulted in three individual state titles and four national qualifiers for the New Balance Nationals.
My coaching is rooted in a scientific and data-driven approach to human performance. I hold a USATF Level 2 Endurance Coaching Certification and am a USATF Cross Country Specialist. I specialize in the tactical and physiological demands of middle-distance and distance events, ranging from the 800m to the 5k. By integrating modern technology like the Coaches Eye for biomechanical analysis, I ensure my athletes achieve peak efficiency and performance.
I possess a unique ability to build athletic cultures from the ground up. I was instrumental in launching the inaugural track and field programs at both Danville Middle School and Vermont State University-Lyndon. At the collegiate level, I have extensive experience in talent identification and roster management using professional recruiting platforms such as NCSA, Front Rush, and Captain U.
With a professional background as a Paraeducator and Home Care Provider, I bring a rare level of patience and adaptability to my coaching. I believe in holistic development, assisting every athlete—from the walk-on to the state champion—in reaching their personal best. My commitment to safety is absolute, backed by certifications in CPR/AED and Seizure Recognition & First Aid.

Every individual is different, and it is important to know each individual’s strengths, weaknesses, and goals in order give each of them the best training plan for them.
Coaching Experience
My Coaching Foundation:
- My career in athletics is built on a foundation of leadership and academic dedication. I earned my B.S. in Sport Management and a Coaching Certificate from Colby-Sawyer College in 2015. During my time there, I balanced the rigors of being a student-athlete with leadership roles, serving as a three-year captain for both the Varsity Cross Country and Track & Field teams. I was also honored as the Charger Men’s Outstanding Athlete of the Year for two consecutive seasons.
Championship Leadership
- Currently, I serve as the Head Track & Field Coach at St. Johnsbury Academy. Since taking this role in late 2025, I have focused on the athletic development of student-athletes in distances ranging from 800 to 3,000 meters. My recent successes includes:
- Leading the Boys team to the 2026 Vermont Indoor Track & Field State Championship.
- Guiding the Girls team to a 3rd place finish at the same state championships.
- Coaching three individual state title winners and four athletes who qualified for New Balance Nationals.
- Additionally, I have served as the Head Cross Country Coach at Danville High School since 2022, where I have successfully guided athletes to the Vermont Meet of Champions.
Collegiate and Program Development
- My experience at the collegiate level at Vermont State University-Lyndon allowed me to build programs from the ground up. I served as the Co-Head Coach during the inaugural 2017 track season and eventually led athletes to individual NAC titles and All-Conference honors. Beyond the track, I am proficient in managing recruitment through platforms like NCSA, Front Rush, and Captain U.
My background also includes significant experience as a Paraeducator and Home Care Provider, where I have spent years assisting students with special needs in developmental learning and community navigation. That included running and exercising with him and helped with pacing him at Road Races.
About Me
I like quoting movies and TV shows; a lot of my humor is through that. Sometimes I live to practice voice over work or impressions. Mentioned in my racing history, I like to train for the Beer Mile and I take part in the Beer Mile World Classic. I also picked up snowboarding somewhat but still learning. And I like to go deer and turkey hunting as well.
Big Influences
I would say I learned a lot from my experiences from my running background on what not to do, and I am able to past that along.
Also when I first started to help coaching after college, I learned from the Head Coach about patience in training at the beginning of the season, and how it can turn better results at the end of the season.
And all the Coaching classes I took from over the years that gave me the deeper knowledge and tools to shape me as a better Coach.

Hayden’s been great! I’m an older athlete competing in track and road racing. Hayden’s track workouts have been spot on as I build strength and prep for Master’s competition later this year. He is accessible, direct and very helpful.
