Philosophy
A coach should foster a passion for learning, personal growth, and helping others reach their potential. I believe a coach should be consistent, assist with decision-making, and allow training to fit into your lifestyle and other life commitments. Every athlete brings something unique to the table and deserves to be heard and respected and allowed the opportunity to succeed and make big goals. I believe a coach and their athlete should have open communication to discuss pros and cons, success and failures, and adjustments in training or race plans.
Coaching Experience
My coaching experience started in the equestrian industry as a twenty-something. I assisted with the development of young show horses, schoolmasters, and began teaching students of many levels, while also continuing to take lessons and continue to grow my knowledge base. One thing I have learned over the years, you can never have to many tools in the toolbox!
Prior to obtaining my run coach certification, I would help friends and co-workers with their running and encourage them to pursue fitness goals big and small. I think movement is so important for the human body and mind.
About Me
I have been a competitive equestrian athlete for almost 32 years and have learned the importance of physical fitness of the rider plays such a pivotal role. I competed in eventing, which is equivalent to a triathlon in the horse world, three disciplines rolled into one event. I had to be strong enough in my core and overall body for dressage, and strong enough in my legs to support galloping and jumping fences in the cross-country and show jump stadium phases. I started Orangetheory fitness to maintain weightlifting and running (and it was below my office which made everything very convenient!) I would ride my horse at 4 AM, commute almost two hours to work, then workout after, drive two hours home – I know days can be long and hard for working professionals with big goals outside the office.
My running journey began when I was in middle school and my mom began training for Ironman Lake Placid, I would join her on bike rides and track practices after work/school. Soon after, I began running on a regular basis after or before school, some days focusing on speed and other times just enjoying my music. In 2013, I ran my first half-marathon and was hooked! I signed up for Marine Corps Marathon next, then just continued signing up for races and working to get faster and stronger. I did not hit the trails until COVID 2020, previous ankle injuries always made everyone warn me about the trails, specifically the Appalachian Trail right behind my house. But I bought trail shows anyway and hit the trail. I LOVED it – I loved the smell of dirt, leaves, and just absolute solitude of the trails! But all races were cancelled for my area for the next year, so it wasn’t until 2022 that I ran my first trail marathon, 2023 a 50k, then a 100k in 2024. I spent the better part of 2025 pregnant and gave birth to my son in July, so my next goal is a 100-mile race in September. I am waking up early to complete training loads, pushing a stroller on recovery runs at the state park on road and trail, trying to read a book every two weeks, and running the farm with an extra set of small hands. By farm, I mean 14 acres with a two-acre spring fed pond, my horse, Godiva, a rescued donkey, 18 chickens, two dogs, and a husband!
Big Influences
My current coach is the best! I’m so happy I finally decided to go with a coach to train for my next race and beyond! I really enjoy using the RPE style for workouts, and minutes/time on feet. I am obviously a huge Courtney Dauwalter fan, Jennifer Lichter, Amanda Basham, Hillary Allen, and Careth Arnold for trail running and Kara Goucher, Des Linden, and Elle Purrier St. Pierre for road and track.
