I have experience both personally and coaching-wise with injuries, the appropriate cross training, and methods for returning to normal training.
Injury prevention and running form are something I emphasis as part of training. Setbacks can be overcome but it’s better when they never happen! Form can help with injury prevention but also has the added benefit of making you a faster more efficient runner.
Philosophy
Consistency over time gives the best and the best long term results. The most achievable way to accomplish that in my opinion is for a coach to partner with you to help you reach your long term goals in daily easily attainable goals that add up over time. You have a goal in mind – I figure out the path that will get you there and that is plausible and enjoyable. I like to help keep the correct perspective in mind to help you easily be self-motivated and enjoying the process of getting where you want to be.
My training aims to make you an aerobic monster with a deadly kick.
Racing is fun. It’s more fun when you’re in shape and ready to rock walking up to the starting line.
Coaching Experience
The bulk of my experience has been coaching at the high school level. I’ve coached brand new to running athletes and have had them develop in to college level runners including D1 runners. 400m/800m guys to 5k runners and those who move up to the 6k, 8k, and 10k. I’ve also coached people who’ve gone on to do half marathons to 100+ mile ultras. Concepts are much the same up to the 10k and even a half. Beyond that fueling during becomes a major factor.
I’ve coached: middle school basketball, club soccer, cross country, track, road racers, etc.
Levels:
- kids
- middle school
- high school
- advised former athletes during their college careers
- adult runners

About Me
I’m a Christian. Many of the concepts of physical training directly correlate to your spiritual life and vise versa. You are not required by any means to be a Christian for me to coach you but I want you to know there is deep meaning attached to what I will give you as a coach. If you are a Christian I can help you balance your training with your walk with the Lord. Each discipline can spur on the other.
“God made me fast. And when I run, I feel His pleasure.” -Eric Liddell(1924 Olympic 400 gold medalist)
I enjoy helping people succeed and being a catalyst for their success. I’m the oldest of 5 kids. I’ve played a good amount of basketball and soccer in MS, HS, and post college. I ran XC and track in MS, HS, and college. I started coaching ~2007.
Big Influences
Rikki Hacker (Park University), Dr. Thomas Schwartz(Tinman Elite currently at Dickinson University), Timo Mostert(American Fork HS), Scott
Christiansen(https://www.completetrackandfield.com/scott-christensen/), Sean Brosnan(formerly Newbury Park HS), Troy Prosser (Central Heights HS), J.J. Wannamaker(Shawnee Mission South HS), Rod Murrow(formerly St. James Academy & Blue Valley North HS), Jay Johnson(Boulder Running Clinic), Lisa Cowan(former coach at KC Christian HS), Dr. Jack Daniels, Kirk Wren(former coach at Ottawa University), etc. etc. Too many more to list but that should give you a good idea philosophy-wise.
Race History
I grew up, trained, and raced during the time where the major philosophy in USA distance running was hard sessions and low mileage. I’ve suffered through enough races in my life that I was driven to seek out a better way for myself but mostly for those I coach. I am continually refining because each person is different but major concepts are there.
My first race ever I was virtually untrained and ran a 1600m in 7th grade on the only cinder track I’ve ever raced(wearing basketball shoes!). I got 2nd with a 5:26.9 to an 8th grader and the future was bright. After that I had great people as my coaches but the philosophies of the time weren’t what they are today and I progressed only as I grew physically. I learned the lesson the hard way that natural ability only takes you so far. Correct training can take you far beyond natural ability.
I’ve raced a lot. Middle school, high school, AAU track, college, and beyond. Several hundred races. I don’t race a lot right now between coaching, running with the high schoolers I coach, and doing tree work for a living.
Personal Records
My personal PRs are all over the map. They match up with natural ability and lack of correct endurance training I described I received from my coaches. It is a big reason I began coaching in the first place!
