SPECIALTIES

Trail and Ultra, with focus on improvement and enjoyment over strictly results. Would love to work with athletes that are just getting started, or training for goal events, and want to keep motivation high. Being a part of the clients’ journey, and supporting those efforts, is what it is all about! Adapting strength and cross training to build strong runners is also pivotal.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe we are all born runners, regardless of ability or performance. The process is the goal, and enjoyment along the way is the payoff! My goal will be to get my clients prepared mentally and physically for the task at hand, and get them to the finish feeling proud and accomplished.

This isn’t training, this is living. – Rocky Mountain Runners

COACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been coaching with Team RunRun for the past year, and have successful worked with runners to achieve their first Ultra finishes, crossing the line at UTMB and even a BQ! I’ve also worked with an ultra coach myself for several years, so I know what it’s like as an athlete to put together training and build upon one season after another as the training goals change and we fine-tune for upcoming races. Putting together a thoughtful and logical racing calendar is also a BIG part of the equation – while still fitting in all the other adventures of the year!

ABOUT ME

I began running 1 mile a day a little over 12 years ago. Fast forward to now, and I have completed over 50 ultras, including Hardrock (x3) and Western States 100! Being out on the trails, with friends and family, is where I am most fulfilled!

BIG INFLUENCES

I was member of Team SWAP (David Roche) for 3 years, and have been working with Team Run Run for many years. I am also a voracious reader of all things training and coaching, so I would say my philosophy is an assimilation of all this past experience.

RACING HISTORY

Started out with a 50 miler in November 2013 (Red Rock 50), and followed that up with another 50 (Sean O’Brien), three months later. Since then, I have run 4-6 ultra per year. I believe in scheduling a yearly race calendar, and building a training schedule from there.

CERTIFICATIONS

I’ve been working with Kyle for the past 6 months to train for my second 100-miler, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. I originally invested in a coach because the world of training theory can feel overwhelming, and I was looking for some structure and guidance. Kyle brought exactly that, but in such a grounded, thoughtful way. His approach to training pushed me to grow while still keeping things sustainable and healthy, never over the top, always measured. He also has a great way of reminding me that, at the end of the day, ultrarunning is about the journey and having fun in the mountains, which helped keep my training both challenging and joyful.

Midway through my build I broke my foot, and Kyle was incredibly supportive throughout my recovery. He worked with me to adapt my plan week by week, tailoring running and cross-training to wherever I was in the healing process. That flexibility and care made all the difference.

I’d recommend Kyle without hesitation to anyone looking for smart, supportive coaching.

I wanted to write an update at the end of my second season with coach Kyle. In the 18 months since my last review, I have achieved much more than I expected working with Kyle. Not only did Kyle train me to complete my first 100 mile race, but to enjoy the training, not feel overwhelmed, and ultimately do well at the race itself. While I was focusing primarily on ultra distances, Kyle also improved my speed and he guided me through qualifying for the Boston Marathon and then run a PR at Boston. His plans are highly tailored to my individual goals and are calibrated to how I am feeling week to week. He is also available to talk through schedules, race strategy and nutrition, and long term plans.

Most importantly, Kyle keeps me running and enjoying it. In the past, I would often train with a specific goal/race in mind and then burnout and struggle with consistency once it was completed. Kyle’s supportive, laid back, and understanding approach has helped guard against burnout and has kept me focused beyond individual races and has made me a much more consistent runner. The consistency has kept me improving and I can safely say that I’m a better, faster runner at 43 than I was when I was 33.

As a dad with a demanding career and family life, I often have to juggle many competing priorities. Kyle’s coaching style recognizes running is just a small part of my life and I dont feel the same pressure as I have has in the past running with other programs. This too has helped keep me engaged and on track in the long term.

In all, I could not ask for a better coach or experience. Thank you!

I’ve been working with Kyle for a few months now as I trained for my second 50K race, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. His coaching has been so effective and enjoyable that I’m planning to continue working with him as I take on my next big challenges—training for my first 50 miler and 100K races this summer

I can’t recommend Kyle enough as a running coach! His training plans are incredibly well thought out, providing a solid foundation for progress while staying flexible to accommodate life’s inevitable changes. Whenever adjustments are needed, Kyle adapts quickly, ensuring training stays effective and enjoyable.

Beyond his expertise in structuring workouts, Kyle brings a wealth of experience as an ultra runner. His deep knowledge of endurance running is evident in his guidance, but what truly sets him apart is his approach—he emphasizes the journey, making sure running remains fun and fulfilling rather than just a grind.

Kyle is everything I could’ve hoped for in a running coach and more. We’ve worked together towards my first 50 miler. His depth of experience doing this dozens of times himself is obvious from the start. Detailed training plans, feedback after my workouts, checking in on progress and how I’m handling the training as we go. I’m also a skier and Kyle worked with me on figuring out how to balance skiing with my training in a sustainable and fun way, while making sure I stay on track towards my goal. Even though he is highly accomplished, his constant focus on enjoying this whole running thing along the way is appreciated. Beyond the tactical planning and feedback of the runs themselves, Kyle has also been brilliant in discussing hydration, fueling, shoes and gear, and chatting about the mental side of this whole endeavor (which is a big part of it). Working with Kyle is like getting a running mentor along with a coach that programs your training. Side benefit: his email newsletter he sends to his clients is great as well exploring many different mental and physical aspects and recommendations in this pursuit.

    I can’t recommend Kyle enough.

Ive had the pleasure of working with Kyle training for my first 100 mile run. I am a run coach, but he is the RUN COACH of run coaches. This man embodies everything you could hope for in a mentor. Not only is his expertise in long-distance running unparalleled, but his ability to inspire, understand, and demonstrate patience truly sets him apart. From the moment I began training under his guidance, I felt empowered and supported every step of the way. His deep understanding of what it takes to conquer long distances not only improved my physical abilities but also instilled in me a newfound confidence and determination. If you’re seeking a coach who is not only knowledgeable but genuinely cares about your progress and success, it’s Kyle.

Kyle is simply an excellent coach. He is currently helping me train for my first 100 mile race. His training plan is clear, well thought out, and he takes the time to explain what his goals are with the runs. He tailors each week depending upon my current condition and schedule. I have already noticed significant improvement in the first 8 weeks of working with him.

Perhaps more important than providing a good training plan, he’s just a great guy. He is encouraging without being overbearing and holds me accountable without making me feel guilty about missing a day here or there.
He is also extremely available and responsive to talk through any questions I have as they come up.

I have really enjoyed working with him and would highly recommend him to anyone who wants a steady and knowledgeable coach in their corner as try to improve their running or are attempting to accomplish a big goal.

I hope to continue training with him for years to come.

    Thanks Kyle!
