Running Coach Description

I coach runners who want to chase meaningful goals without letting running take over the rest of their lives. As a teacher, husband, father of two, and competitive runner myself, I understand the challenge of balancing consistent training with work, family, and everything else life brings.

I work with runners across a range of abilities, from those preparing for their first race to experienced athletes chasing a new personal best, with a particular focus on distances from the 5K through the marathon. My coaching combines individualized training, strength work, race strategy, pacing, and recovery, with an emphasis on consistency and long-term development.

I believe good coaching is a partnership. I want to understand what is happening both in your training and outside of it, explain the purpose behind what we’re doing, and adjust when life doesn’t follow the plan. We’ll work hard when it’s time to work hard, recover when it’s time to recover, and build training around your life rather than expecting your life to revolve around training.

Most importantly, I want you to become a faster, stronger, and more confident runner while continuing to enjoy the reason you started running in the first place.

Philosophy

My coaching philosophy is built around the idea that running should be challenging, rewarding, and enjoyable. I believe the best training plan is one that fits into an athlete’s life—not one that takes it over.

I work with each runner to build consistent, purposeful training around their experience, goals, schedule, and individual needs. Whether you’re preparing for your first 5K, tackling your first marathon, or chasing a new personal best, my goal is to help you understand the purpose behind your training and become a stronger, more confident runner.

I believe in balancing hard work with recovery, incorporating strength training, and making adjustments when life inevitably gets in the way. Ultimately, I want the athletes I coach to improve their performance while staying healthy and continuing to enjoy the sport for years to come.

In the end, I want to share my knowledge and expertise with the runners I coach.

Coaching Experience

I have experience coaching runners across a range of abilities and race distances, with athletes achieving personal bests of 2:55:52 in the marathon, 1:31:28 in the half marathon, and 40:49 in the 10K. I am currently coaching two additional athletes as they prepare for upcoming half marathons.

I also have two years of experience coaching elementary school cross-country and track athletes, helping young runners develop their fitness, confidence, and enjoyment of the sport.

Beyond running, I bring more than 12 years of experience as an educator. Coaching, communication, leadership, and adapting to individual needs are a major part of what I do every day. I bring that same approach to running—meeting athletes where they are, explaining the purpose behind their training, providing meaningful feedback, and adjusting training to fit the athlete and their life.

As a competitive runner myself, I also bring firsthand experience with structured training from the 5K through the marathon, including high-volume training, strength work, race preparation, fuelling, pacing, and recovery.

About Me

I’m a teacher, husband, dad of two, and competitive recreational runner based in Orangeville, Ontario. I understand firsthand that most runners are balancing training with careers, families, and everything else life throws at them. Running is important—but the training has to work within the rest of your life.

I’ve been running competitively for more than five years and have completed seven marathons, including New York City, Toronto, Mississauga, and Georgina. Along the way, I’ve experienced everything from breakthrough races and personal bests to difficult training blocks, injuries, cramping, and races that didn’t go according to plan. Those experiences have shaped the way I approach both my own running and the athletes I coach.

My background as an educator has also had a major influence on my coaching. I enjoy helping people understand not just what they’re doing, but why they’re doing it. I want my athletes to feel comfortable asking questions, providing feedback, and being involved in the training process.

Most importantly, I genuinely love running and the community surrounding it. Whether your goal is to finish your first 5K, run your first marathon, or chase a big personal best, I want to help you enjoy the process of finding out what you’re capable of.

Big Influences

I’m a huge fan of Ben and Mary Bridges, Megan and David Roche, and Andrew Pozza. All of these athletes and coaches approach running in a similar style: allowing process and effort to guide much of the training stimulus.

Race History

I ran my first marathon at the 2011 New York City Marathon, finishing in 3:21:59. After several years away from competitive running, I returned to racing in 2022 and have since focused heavily on developing as a distance runner.
