Philosophy
I believe that everyone is and can be a runner; and whether chasing their first finish line or a new PB, they deserve a plan built around their life, not a life built around their plan. My coaching is grounded in physiological science (80/20 methodology (distributing weekly training load, in line with relevant HR zones) paired with VDOT-based training).
This is always fitted to the individual! I work with your schedule, your goals, and how you respond to training. Because I truly believe that the best plan is one you can actually stick to, and the one you can stick to will lead to fitness gains.
Coaching Experience
I’ve been coaching for the past two years, and have invested seriously in the craft of doing so: holding certifications from VDOT-O2 to 80/20 Endurance, and IronmanU. I bring the perspective of a competitive national level athlete (racing at English National Championship races, and now training and representing Singapore in duathlon, triathlon and running) and I have (and still do!) lived the training process from the athlete perspective.
I know what it feels like to have breakthroughs, setbacks, and everything in between. I coach runners from complete beginners through to those chasing fast time goals across 5K, 10K, half marathon, and marathon. Over my time as a coach, I have already coached two individuals to their Half Marathon and Full Marathon PBs (and hope to continue doing so, as well as cultivating a love for the running lifestyle, and racing).
About Me
I’m a competitive runner turned triathlete, training and racing for Half Ironman (70.3) races; I have lived in Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire, Cambridgeshire, Japan, and Singapore, and have recently relocated to Melbourne! I genuinely love the endurance sport lifestyle; the morning runs, sessions at the pool, hard intervals, and the community around it.
I’m a bit of a running nerd, and very evidence-driven; I love digging into the science of training. That said, I’m equally passionate about making running sustainable and enjoyable for the long haul. Outside of running, I’m studying a Sport Business Masters Degree and previously spend six years as a Secondary Mathematics Teacher! I really thrive off helping people achieve their goals, and mentoring athletes through their highs and lows.
Big Influences
My coaching is most heavily shaped by Matt Fitzgerald’s 80/20 Endurance Methodology approach, which has really changed how I think about intensity distribution and why most runners train too hard, too often. Together with my understanding of Jack Daniels’ VDOT framework (one of the most rigorously science-backed systems in distance running), these systems underpin almost every decision I make as a coach.
Race History
I’ve competed extensively at club, national, and internationl level across road, track, and triathlon racing: everything from 5000m on the track, to half marathons. Racing has given me a ground-level understanding of what it actually feels like to train through a build, taper, and race; and how to help athletes manage the mental and physical demands that go with it.
I hold a 5km PB of 16:37 and a 10km PB of 35:42.
