Specialties

Rob Gomez established Eastern Shore Training (EST) in 2014 to help everyday people and busy professionals achieve their running dreams.

Philosophy

Rob’s guiding coaching principles are the following:

  • Personalized Training Plans: Athletes receive tailored training programs that align with their goals, fitness levels and work/life schedules.
  • Adaptation to Real Life: Athletes are provided training plans that accommodate work and family schedules that can be adjusted for planned and unplanned life events.
  • Experienced Guidance: Athletes are provided professional advice and strategies to improve performance based on what has worked (or hasn’t worked) for hundreds of other runners.
  • Injury Prevention: Training plans emphasize injury prevention through proper form, recovery, and strength training.
  • Motivation and Accountability: Structured plans, regular check-ins and encouragement help athletes stay committed to their training.
  • Goal Setting and Achievement: Athletes are provided guidance in setting realistic but challenging goals in a structured, “one-bite-of-the-elephant-at-a-time” approach.
  • Race Strategy: Athletes are provided advice on pacing, nutrition, and mental strategies to optimize race day performance.
  • Holistic Approach: We take into account all aspects of an athlete’s lifestyle—nutrition, sleep, stress management—to stay mentally “locked in” on running goals.

Coaching Experience

Since 2014, Rob has collaborated with nearly 250 runners of all ability levels and walks of life, ranging in ages from 16 to over 70. These runners have collectively achieved nearly 40 Boston Qualifiers, two Olympic Marathon Trials qualifiers and countless personal bests in everything from 5k road races to backyard ultramarathons.

Big Influences

My major influences include Jack Daniels, Steve Magness and my late collegiate coach Al Fereshetian. I’ve also learned from and been influenced by all the fellow athletes I’ve trained with, raced with and coached over the last 25 years.

I’ve been wanting to get more serious with my pursuit of running, specifically to PR in the half marathon. Rob has been a great match for this. The program designed for me has been challenging but manageable and Rob is always available for any questions or concerns.

If you want to take your running to the next level, strongly consider reaching out to Rob, 10/10 recommend.

I think the world of Rob Gomez and want to shout it from the rooftops for anyone thinking of a coach to contact him.
The personal attention, email/ phone check ins, and adjusting the plan when my boring life quickly changed for last minute events is one of the reasons I like working with Rob. He gets it that people have lives, families, and jobs and can make a work around.
The plan was easy to follow and great for me because it was designed for me. He doesn’t do one size fits all.

This review comes from someone who hates running. Running itself gets negative stars. But when I decided I wanted to try to run a race and reached out to Rob for help, he was great to work with. He devised a workout regimen that worked for me. It was a mix of running and also some other exercises during the non-running days to keep my endurance climbing and getting a full body workout. He was a great coach.

Whether you’re an everyday runner trying to hit some new goals or someone who runs a race because their friends or significant other pressures them, working with Rob is a great way to not look terrible on race day. And who knows. Maybe hit a PR.

I can’t say enough about what Rob has done for my running. I’m very new and had about 50,000 questions, but Rob had no problem providing his amazing insight to help me. We worked together for a 25K trail race as well as the Maine Marathon. The training plans were excellent and flexible, and I really feel as though I’m a better, stronger runner because of the work I put in. The strength training was new to me, but Rob stressed the importance. Since working with him I’ve gotten significantly faster and I feel like a true runner.

If your serious about crushing your goals or ready to take up running, have fun and learn from one of Maine’s best, Rob is your Coach! Rob helped me for the last 2 years focus on my goals big and small, leading me to personal bests in the 10k and Marathon after 10 years since my last personal best.

Rob is the best! I have been working with him since 2019 and in that time he has helped me achieve personal bests at 5k, 10k and 15k. He has supported me through injury recoveries and has provided motivation when I most needed it. He is reliable and quick to respond and his training plans provide the flexibility and adaptability that I frequently need with two school age children and a full time job. I would highly recommend Rob to anyone!

Rob has changed my focus of running and is helping me take my passion for running to a whole new level. I’ve completed two half marathons and I’m looking forward to completing my first full marathon this fall with his support and guidance.
