Specialties

  • I specialize in 5K to marathon road races for beginner, intermediate, and competitive athletes.
  • I will also add structured strength training into my plans where applicable.
  • I can create flexible plans for busy lives or returning from injury.

Philosophy

My coaching decisions are shaped by a balance of science, experience, and the individual athlete in front of me. The key components include:

  • Athlete individuality
    • Every runner brings a unique background—training history, injury profile, lifestyle stress, goals, and mindset. I prioritize understanding who the athlete is before deciding what the training should look like.
  • Clear goals and context
    • Short-term and long-term goals guide everything from mileage and intensity to race selection. A high school 5K runner, a first-time marathoner, and a competitive masters athlete all require different approaches.
  • Training principles and evidence-based practice
    • Decisions are grounded in proven principles such as progressive overload, specificity, recovery, and consistency. I use current research to inform training.
  • Feedback and data
    • Objective data (pace, heart rate, RPE, race results) combined with subjective feedback (how the athlete feels physically and mentally) allows me to adjust training in real time.
  • Adaptability and communication
    • Life happens—stress, sleep, work, school, and travel all impact training. Ongoing communication ensures the plan remains flexible and realistic while still moving the athlete forward.
  • Athlete confidence and enjoyment
    • A program only works if the athlete believes in it and enjoys the process. I aim to build confidence, motivation, and a positive relationship with running alongside performance gains.

Ultimately, my coaching decisions are driven by helping each athlete improve in a way that is sustainable, purposeful, and aligned with both their performance goals and overall well-being.

Coaching Experience

I’ve been coaching for almost two years and have worked with athletes of all levels across multiple distances, from runners breaking 40 minutes in the 10K to those chasing sub-2-hour half marathons.

About Me

I’m a very goal-oriented person and I do my best when I have structure and routine in my life. When things get chaotic—as they inevitably do—I turn to endurance sports as my anchor. Training gives me clarity, balance, and a space to reset both mentally and physically.

Outside of running and coaching, I make it a priority to spend time with my wife and our dog, neither of whom have any interest in endurance sports at all. We love getting outside together, whether that’s hiking around the Minneapolis area or spending time on the lakes in Wisconsin with our families.

Big Influences

I believe effective training lies in balancing scientific, data-driven principles with the psychological aspects of performance. While training metrics do not always tell the full story, there are also days when mental readiness does not align perfectly. To maximize each athlete’s potential, it is essential to find the appropriate balance between objective data and subjective experience.

Race History

I grew up competing in track and cross country before transitioning to marathon running during college. After college, I expanded into triathlon, beginning a few years later once I was able to invest in the necessary equipment. In 2022, I shifted my focus toward long-course triathlon, centering my training on Ironman events while continuing to compete in road races. A career highlight came in September 2025, when I won my age group and placed 14th overall at Ironman 70.3 Wisconsin.
