SPECIALTIES
I believe everyone is an athlete, no matter your experience or current fitness level. So whether you are just starting out in your running journey, or are lining up for your fiftieth ultra, I’m able to help you achieve your goals.
In particular I can help with strength and injury prevention, improving speed, lifestyle and exercise nutrition and technical trail running.
Distances from half marathon and up are my main focus, but I also believe it’s important to be a well rounded athlete and be able to run/races at all distances.
PHILOSOPHY
My number one goal with my athletes is to ensure a long and happy / healthy running career. I will help you achieve this by providing you with an individualised training plan that fits in with your lifestyle and other life commitments. If you are happy and healthy and enjoying your running, you will be more consistent which will drive improved performance.
The other key components of my programs are building aerobic capacity, and improving running economy so you can put your aerobic engine to good use.
COACHING EXPERIENCE
I started coaching with Team RunRun in 2021 after coaching myself, family and friends since 2016. I’ve coached athletes to PR’s, BQ’s, achieving stretch goals (first marathon, first ultra), and athletes with no goals other than to improve their health and fitness. I have also coached athletes of all ages and abilities, including some athletes pre, during and post pregnancy, and multiple athletes with Type 1 diabetes.
I am always looking to improve my knowledge of training, racing, nutrition and strength through continued learning and my own research.
ABOUT ME
My running journey began when I was five years old at my local athletics club. Over time I progressed to be a national level sprinter winning medals in the 100m & 200m at both state and national championships.
After work and family life became too busy to commit to full time sprinting, I took some time off and started running longer distances to keep fit. This pretty quickly progressed to marathons and then ultra marathons once I realised the benefits and joys of endurance running!
I also live a plant based lifestyle, and enjoy finding tasty new recipes to make for my family.
BIG INFLUENCES
The biggest influence on my coaching has come from David and Megan Roche. I find not only their coaching philosophies but general life approach to be amazing.
Other influences include Jason Koop, Shawn Bearden and Mark Green.
RACING HISTORY
I have raced everything from 100 metres to 100 miles!
Some of my recent races include:
- Six Foot Track Marathon
- Backyard Blister (backyard ultra)
- Ultra Trail Australia 50km
- Run Larapinta Stage Race
- Ultra-Trail Kosciuszko 100 mile
I also enjoy going to the local ParkRun whenever my kids’ sports don’t get in the way!

Since I started working with Tom 2 months ago, I have seen tremendous progress in my running performance and I credit much of that success to his expertise, dedication, and commitment to helping me achieve my goals. His personalized training plans and attention to detail have pushed me beyond my limits, supported by his encouragement and positive attitude. I appreciate the way his challenges me to strive for excellence while also making sure that I am taking care of my body and avoiding injury. As a result I feel confident I can run distances I once thought were out of reach. I would highly recommend Tom as a running coach to anyone looking to improve their running performance or achieve their running goals.

I cannot recommend Tom enough as a running coach. I have been impressed with his patience, his timely feedback, his flexibility to fit into my busy lifestyle and his ability to push me beyond what I thought I could ever do. His coaching has kept me not only on track with my running, but has also allowed me to stay consistent and kick some serious PB goals.
Having a running coach has been the best personal investment!

Tom is a brilliant coach. His communication and feedback is excellent. His response time to any questions is quick. He is supportive of my goals and his training plans have enable me to progress quicker than I thought I could. When I started with him I had injuries and he worked my training around them. Tom is nothing but excellent in all aspects of his coaching. His general communication and feedback is very good and the program he’s had me on since the start is very well tailored to my needs and lifestyle. He is cognizant at all times about scheduling my runs around my busy life and providing feedback in a manner well explained. 10/10 will be staying on with Tom for the foreseeable future.

I’ve been a runner for 25 years and this is my first experience with a running coach and I’ve been so impressed! Tom has an incredible gift for individualizing plans. He has been able to help craft a training program that works around work and family obligations while staying focused on goals. The plans he creates are intentional; each run has a purpose and I feel that I’m becoming a smarter runner because of my time with Tom. In addition to great guidance, Tom is wonderful to work with as a coach. We live half a world apart yet he is super responsive to messages, proactive on communication, and fully engaged in our plan. I love working with Tom and highly recommend him to anyone who wants to get to the next level with their running.

I am a 51 year old type 1 diabetic. I have experience in running half/full marathons but decided to take on the challenge of an ultramarathon/trail/uphill. I chose Tom due to learning he is a plant based athlete and has experience with type 1 diabetes. We live on opposite sides of the moon, however he makes the time to have zoom meetings with me and is extremely responsive to my emails/questions. He tailors my program to my needs and is very patient with me when I need to make schedule changes. He educates me with videos/podcasts which have greatly helped my stability/core/form on the trail. I am so much enjoying the challenges of my running and core workouts. I have never felt as fit as I am now and I placed 6th out of 87 in my age group in a race I have been running for years and usually finish in the middle! Thank you so much Tom!

At 50 I decided I wanted to learn to run and was so fortunate to stumble across Tom. Having no real experience with running, being prone to injury and having low cardio fitness, I wasn’t sure if this was something I could even achieve. Tom has taken the time to listen and adapt a program to suit my individual needs and is extremely encouraging. I have been amazed at how far I have come under his guidance and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him to anyone who is looking for a coach.

Tom is an outstanding coach. He has greatly improved my running, outlook, and confidence within a short time frame. He has tailored the training to my individual needs, goals, and feedback, and he puts a lot of thought and attention into his plans, including strength and long-term planning. Moreover, he is flexible and modifies the plan to accommodate my changing schedule. I appreciate how generous Tom is with his time and feedback. He is very responsive, supportive, enthusiastic, and accessible. His coaching is an incredible value and definitely worth the investment in your running. If you are looking for an encouraging and attentive coach, I highly recommend Tom!
