PHILOSOPHY

I love coaching distance runners and have done so professionally for over 30 years. I keep it simple and feel that I do a great job working with each person individually because everyone is different! While I no longer compete, I still run 4 to 6 days per week. I ran competitively at the scholarship level in college and ran for the best high school coach in the country which strongly influenced my career path as a collegiate coach.

COACHING EXPERIENCE

30+ years of highly successful collegiate cross country and track & field coaching at the scholarship and non-scholarship level. Have coached National Champions for men & women from the 800 to the 10k as well as in cross country. Have also coached 5 national championship teams. I have worked with highly successful high school runners (state champions, NXN qualifiers, etc.) in the summer. I have worked with amateur and professional runners from 800 to 10k who have qualified for the U.S.A. Track & Field National Championships as well as post collegians still looking to compete at a high level. On the side, for fun, I’ve coached friends or friends children training for civil service testing such as military or police/fire running tests as well as folks training for their first 5k to marathon.

I will preface this feedback that I’ve never had a running coach. I do, as many amateur runners, my own research, read books and tried my best to learn how to run and perform training programs for goal distances. As I have gotten back into running I have found it very helpful to have an experienced coach in my corner who can give me advice and encouragement based on data, facts, and other runner’s experiences. Friends and runner partners can’t really provide good individual advice like Bob can. Bob has done a great job at communicating often, checking in based on my running notes, and setting up video phone calls to go over progress, plans, and future goals. I appreciate Bob’s specific advice he gives me for where I am currently at as a runner and he encourages me to stick to the plan and I will achieve my future goals. Bob is a great accountability coach and I look forward to each of my interactions with him.

Coach Bob was great to work with. He is very knowledgeable and always supportive. Thanks to his training and guidance, I hit a new PR in the Bix 7-mile race. I highly recommend Bob to anyone looking to improve their running.

Coach Bob is a superb running coach. As a 40+ runner, I thought it was important that I have a running coach who listens well to how I am feeling, understands that I have competing demands on my time, and adapts my training plan accordingly. In other words, truly individualizes training. And I can say that since I started working with Bob earlier this year, he has done this in spades. For example, when I got injured playing soccer, he was great about checking in and changing my workouts as necessary. I could share other things about working with Bob, such as his great training insights, but I’ll just say that my good running days have become more frequent in number since I started.

Bob is a great running coach! I’ve been working with Bob for a couple of months now, and I plan to work with him for as long as he is offering online coaching. This is my first experience with online coaching, and I could not be happier with the experience—thanks to Bob. Bob posts my workouts each week on the Final Surge app, customized to my goals and based on my schedule. He then checks in regularly and is very responsive whenever I have any questions or comments. Working with Bob has given me the confidence that my running progress is on the right track, which I have not felt since I last had a running coach during collegiate cross-country over a decade ago.

Coach Bob has been such an amazing addition to my running. I was really struggling with where to start and how to progress. With his help I’m enjoying running again and really seeing great progress. I can’t wait to continue working with him.

I’m 65 and never trained for the 1500 or the 5K other than reading running articles and runners world. I won the 1500 and 5K at Florida senior games and decided I should get a coach for Nationals. I picked Bob based on his track record and his honesty. He told me he has not coached Grand Masters my age but felt he could do just fine. It has been over a few months and my core strength I amazing and I actually have a 6 pack abs now and my weight is down 14 pounds. Bob’s program is hard but just about the time I think I can’t do another workout, there is a rest day or cross training day so he has the right mix of pushing hard and rest. It took some time to get there but I’m able to hit the workout tines now and feel like bu July I will be as fit as I ever have been.

Coach Schultz has done a great job of improving my fitness and preparing me for my second marathon. He does a good job of checking in on how your body is doing and how your runs are going, and he has been super helpful and easy to work with! He isn’t just well versed in training, but also with fueling and stretching as well.

Working with my coach has been a truly rewarding experience. He is incredibly responsive and genuinely engaged in the lives of the runners he supports. What sets him apart is his deep, well-rounded knowledge – not only about running workouts, but also strength training, core work, nutrition, and race-day preparation. I feel supported on every level of my marathon journey. His thoughtful approach and consistent guidance are helping me move closer to my goals, and I genuinely enjoy being part of this coaching process.

Bob has been an amazing coach to me over the last several months. As a busy adult who always enjoyed running but never had trained in a structured way, Bob put together a program that tailored my needs and availability, and provided key guidance on gear and race preparation. I can’t recommend Bob more highly!

I got to work with Coach Bob for a few months this winter leading into track season, and I had a great experience. It was great to be able to develop a consistent, well rounded training schedule that always met my needs as a runner during the offseason. I always appreciate his helpful feedback regarding various training strategies, and I am really excited to see the progress he helped me make translate into this coming season.

Bob has been a great guide with a vast expanse of knowledge, and working with him has greatly streamlined my training experience. I worked with him for 2 months before the track season began, and I feel he whipped me into pretty good shape. I am excited to see the results of his well-thought out training. I cannot recommend Coach Bob enough.

Coach Bob has been an awesome coach to work with and doing his program has been great in getting my speed back and even faster than it was before and my mileage back up. I was recovering from a injury and was one of the slowest I have been and with not running for over a over a month was hesitant on getting the speed and mileage back but with coach bobs program we slowly and steadily built the necessary foundation and with continued progression each week and the great personalized workouts was finally able to surpass my speed I had before the injury.

I am a former competitive collegiate runner and have taken a few years off and working to make a transition to the marathon as a former mid-distance runner. I have struggled with injury and motivation for months. Bob has done a great job of programming training that is getting me in great shape as well as staying healthy. I feel re-motivated to set prs and chase down times that I ran in college. He understands work and life balance and holds me accountable while also being flexible with a busy life schedule. Very satisfied in working with Bob so far.

I have been working with Coach Bob for a couple months now and he has really transformed my running abilities to a new level! Prior to working with him, I had no experience ever running a race or training specifically for distance running. After a little over a month of sticking to his carefully designed training plan, I was able to place in the top 25 of a 6K collegiate cross country race (that the reigning NCAA DIII champions were in should I mention). I also wanted to touch on the fact that Coach is very good about avoiding injuries as I have had 0 pain or anything since I’ve started working with him. This is coming from an athlete who has dealt with stress related foot injuries her whole life too. With all being said, I could not achieve the progress I have achieved in this sport so far without Coach Bob’s guidance and am so excited to keep working with him to see what I can accomplish! He is awesome!

Coach Bob did an amazing job prepping me for my 5k! I was a former collegiate runner and took some time off after college. He was very helpful in building my fitness based off my previous training history. He was very knowledgeable when I had concerns about former injuries, and provided lifting to help prevent those issues from flaring up again. I appreciate all of the knowledge and feedback he provided and I love how it took all of the guess work out of my training

Coach Bob has been an amazing coach to me! I have a goal of running a half marathon at the end of this month and I am feeling very prepared mentally and physically to complete it! He has been very understanding and flexible with any schedule changes that I have needed to make as well. He has so much knowledge and has been able to answer any questions I have about really anything. I would highly recommend having him as your coach!

I have been working with Bob for 11 weeks now and enjoying the process. I am 41, have not ran regularly in 10 years, and am injury prone. I really wanted to push myself and see what I could accomplish in a marathon but figured if I tried to do it myself I would be hurt 3 weeks in. So far my body is holding up great and I even got 2nd in a 5k race 2 weeks ago. Can’t wait to see the results of the marathon. Bob communicates really well, is very invested, and cares. Every week I feel motivated and am always looking forward to what workouts will get uploaded for me each week.

I’ve been working with coach Bob for about 2 1/2 months so far! I’ve never been a strong runner and have had multiple running related injuries. I had been training to enter the military for about a year and could only make it maybe a month and a half before having a lower body injury and losing all the progress I’d make. I signed up with coach Bob and he’s been able to get me closer to reaching my goals in 2 1/2 months than I’d been able to in a year and without injury! He truly invests himself in your goals and has the knowledge and experience to get you there. I can’t wait to see what I can accomplish over the coming months with him in my corner.

I have been running for 1 and a half years now. And was kind of clueless what to do for works and training. I found Bobs coaching page and signed up. Bob has been amazing so far! He has great communication, knowledge, and you can tell he really cares about helping you reach your running goals! I would highly recommend Bob for a coach on your running journey to help you get that next pr!

I have had the pleasure of watching Coach Bob motivate his runners for the past thirty years. One of my sons was a sprinter at Loras and I was able to witness Coach Bob’s dedication in developing national champions. He is currently working with another one of my sons that will be a high school freshmen in the fall. Coach Bob is so knowledgeable and motivating for my son and his high aspirations. I am looking forward to some exciting results. Coach Bob is committed to keeping his athletes healthy and on-track with their goals. If you want personal attention, motivation and proven success, Coach Bob is for you.

After college I have been looking to stay competitive and run road races from the 5k to the marathon. Bob has done a great job setting me up with a great training plan where I feel confident on the start line. The training has been very customized to my needs and I appreciate everything Bob has done to get me ready to race!

I started working with Bob sometime in the summer of 2011, back when he was my XC and T&F coach at Loras so I have known/worked with him for a very long time. Back then he turned a mid-distance runner who hadn’t really ever run more than 2 miles and improved my times immensely over the course of 4 years. When I first started running with Coach Schultz I was running 4 miles in around 36 minutes and improved in just a year to 5 miles in around 31 minutes under his tutelage. My mid-distance times also improved to lifetime PRs of 4:29 in the 1500m and 10:15 in the 2 mile while being coached by Bob. Coach Schultz is also very considerate when it comes to dealing with injuries and recovery, he worked with me through 3 major surgeries so far and he’s been great every step of the way. As it stands now, I work in the Special Operations community where with Bob’s help I’ve recovered from another major surgery, getting back to achieving our high physical fitness standards. As it was over a decade ago, it is now again that Bob Schultz represents the best running coaching around. Whether you’re training for XC/T&F, a marathon, or to meet an exacting military fitness test, Bob Schultz is worth every penny.

    May 2024:

In my previous review, I said I couldn’t wait to see the results of Coach Bob’s work with my sons this spring. It is now spring and the results are in. He started working with my two sons in January. One is a senior and one a sophmore. The idea was to put together an offseason plan that would transition into an outdoor season plan with the intent of helping them set long range goals, hone their work ethic and build towards running their best races at the end of the season. Well, that is exactly what happened. They qualified for the state track championships in the 4X800 relay and the 1600. Then they went on to stand on the podium together twice. They placed 5th with their other two teammates in the 4X800 and finished 6th and 7th in the 1600. Not only that, they broke the 41 year old school record in the 4×800 and they both PR’ed in the 1600 at state. My senior broke his own 1600 school record for the third time this season and his little brother was only a second behind. Coach Bob gave them constant support, feedback and encouragement all along. No matter what your athlete’s goals are, I can’t imagine a more supportive and effective coach than Bob.

    February 2024:

Coach Bob is working with both my sons who are high school cross country and track athletes. He is extremely knowledgeable, communicates great, answers all their questions and creates an overall plan specific to their goals. This is the just the structure they have been wanting. Can’t wait to see the results this spring!

Getting Coach Bob as a coach has changed so much about my running experience for the better. He is super quick to respond and knows so much about running, and has helped me run prs in the 1600 and 3200 this year. As a high school athlete, I would definitely recommend him.

Bob and I have been working together for 3 months now and he has been nothing but amazing! I’m a busy working mom of 2 and Bob is flexible and understanding while also pushing me to a new level. I am running paces I have not seen in years and I have never been so eager to start racing. Bob communicates consistently, quickly, and regularly. He knows the perfect level of pushing while allowing rejuvenation. I could not be happier with the progress I am making and all the thanks goes to Bob!!

I started running consistently a little less than a year ago. I signed up for marathon and quickly fell in love with the process of running 26.2! I wanted to see how much I could improve at that distance and found Coach Schultz. Bob is an incredible coach who pushes me to be the best runner that I can be. He has years of experience coaching at the collegiate level and brings a similar mentality to coaching me individually. I have been very impressed with Bob’s communication, as he checks in with me frequently. I am extremely grateful to have found him and can see myself improving as a runner everyday.
