PHILOSOPHY

My goal as a coach is to be there to help in every aspect of running, so we can get you to your goals. This ranges from gear advice such as Shoes, Clothes, tech, etc. (as I have tested all kinds of stuff), Specific fueling strategies that work for you, strength exercises to keep you strong and healthy, form input to maximize efficiency, and workouts to increase your fitness and speed that work best for you. And all this happens through open conversation and communication so that we can adjust and tailor everything specifically to you.

I also truly believe that there is more than one way to define success in running. This is a philosophy I try to teach every runner I work with. By getting to know the athlete beyond just their PR’s and goal times, we are able to set goals that will allow the runner to grow and become the best runner they can be. But obviously times are important to runners as well, so that is always factored into the goals if that’s what the runner is going for.

I strive to support my athletes not only with a personalized training plan, but also I include:

  • Communication: Athletes can text or email anytime with questions or concerns, and I will check in on a regular basis to make sure we are on the right track.
  • Weekly plan updates: I will looks at the schedule weekly and make adjustments as necessary so that we can maximize training, but stay as injury free and have fun at the same time
  • Strength Training recommendations: I will provide a quick strength training routine to add to the workouts (If strength training is not already a part of your routine) so that we can strengthen the whole body and keep you injury free.
  • Race day planning: I will support with any questions about a race day plan and any questions that arise come race day
  • Nutrition and Fueling: I can give support and recommendations on in-run fueling and hydration strategies, based on my experience over the years. I can also give direction to certified dieticians if desired.

Overall, my goal is to be there for my runners for whatever they need, or point them in the direction of someone that can help if I don’t know the answer. Every runner is different and has different life situations, and I can help get you to your goals while factoring it all in. As a father I know this first hand. I strive to help everyone grow as a runner and achieve more than they ever thought possible.

ABOUT ME

I started running in college when I signed up for a Tough Mudder. Afraid I wasn’t going to be able to finish, I started on the treadmill and felt like I was going to die after a 1 mile run. Thankfully things got better from there and I was able to complete my race. From there I ran OCR races for a few years until I met my wife and hopped into a Half Marathon with her. I must of had fun because since then I have completed countless races on the roads, trails, and OCR, including 12 Marathons, 6 Ultras, and a longest race of 52 Miles.

I am also very active in my local running community. I run and train with a local training group throughout the year, am an ambassador for a local running store, and run every local race I can to support the community.

Cody provides a structured, personalized plan. I’ve used group plans or free online plans before, but life always changes and I always just guessed how to adjust my schedule. Cody not only adjusts my schedule as needed, he explains why. Sometimes we push a run to a different day, sometimes we add a rest day, sometimes we even make a run more challenging. It’s very personalized for what I need. He also adjusts my plan depending on what my friends are doing so I can still enjoy the social aspect of running. I’ve received valuable advice on strength training, race nutrition, and hydration. I’ll be running my second marathon in a couple weeks, and I feel much more confident and prepared than my first marathon. Would highly recommend!

The biggest difference I have noticed that Cody brought to my marathon training was structuring out my quality sessions / speed work. Typically 1-2 workouts a week that will have some kind of speed work built in that not only keep the runs interesting but also when it comes time to do a longer time trial / race it’s amazing how much easier that pace is than just a few short months ago.

Cody has been an amazing coach. He has adjusted my training schedule to fit my busy schedule and is helping me transition from walk/run to increasing my run time. I missed several runs over the 2 weeks of the holidays and he adjusted my training when I was I was able to commit again.

Cody has been very impressive in giving me tips and insights on how to run quicker and stay fitter during training season.
The workouts I’m receiving from Cody are very comprehensive. They include strength training easy, tempo and speed workouts as well. Sessions are based on your recent efforts and racing goals. I would definitely recommend Cody as a marathon, half marathon, 10k, 5K, ultra coach. He’s brilliant.

When trying to come up with a training plan for my first ever marathon this Fall (NYC), I found myself lost and confused as to what would be the best for me and my goals due to all the information there is out there. I decided it would be best to hire a coach as it would not only give me a training plan that would help me achieve my goals, but also stay on track and be consistent with my training.

I decided to choose Cody as my coach after hearing about his experience both running and coaching, his customized training plans, and that we were able to work together virtually due to me living in NYC, and I’m so glad I did! Cody asked for detailed information about my running history, my goals, what I would like to improve on, my strengths & weaknesses, and so much more to come up with a training plan that would best fit me. We are currently at the halfway point in training, and I am feeling confident that my training plan will allow me to achieve my goals. Cody has been great at answering any questions I have had. One of my favorite features about his plan is the platform (VDOT) he uses to send workouts. It syncs to Strava, allows you to see a detailed view of your run/workout down to exact pace, and allows me to make quick comments post-run for Cody to see, which then we can reflect on day by day or week by week depending on the comment/how I felt.

If you are looking for a coach that will pay attention to your goals, customize training plans, and be supportive throughout the process, choose Cody! Whenever I decide to train for my next race post-NYC, I will definitely be using Cody again!
