SPECIALTIES

  • I have experience and success on a personal level and coaching with all distances from 1.5 miles (Air Force Physical Fitness Test) to 50 miles.
  • My work has been done with beginner and intermediate levels on road and trail.

PHILOSOPHY

If anyone straps on shoes and goes out for a run…they’re runners no matter how fast or slow! We all have our own reasons for running, but I think it’s ultimately to become the best version of ourselves. I like to approach training with clarity, intention and communication. I believe in running in a holistic manner which includes variation, rest and recovery, nutrition and mental wellbeing.

COACHING EXPERIENCE

I started coaching at age 18 with girls’ softball. I’ve had extensive youth baseball coaching experience across Europe. I mentored others in running during my Air Force career and currently coach my Air Force JROTC Special Operations Team (physical fitness competition team). I’ve also mentored other educators in running at the High School where I teach.

ABOUT ME

I grew up in a small California desert town and played sports my whole life. Running was a punishment in the sports I played and I hated it! After joining the Air Force, I ran as required before I took it up in 2007 and learned to absolutely love it!

After retiring from the Air Force, I moved to Utah where I discovered trail running. I love to mix up road and trail runs as well as compete in several races on both surfaces throughout the year.

BIG INFLUENCES

Rich Roll along with his coach Chris Hauth completely changed my running life. They set me on a path that has spurred my interest in competing in events, researching the science of running and believing that my best running days are still ahead of me. I bring this enthusiasm to coaching and hope to help others get excited and have success in this sport.

RACING HISTORY

After years of running and races of distances up the road marathon, I took on my first 50k. I was nervous…maybe even scared. However, I just went to the race and started with everyone else. Everything felt normal, but I wondered about passing the 26.2 mark. The time and distance came and I crossed the 26.2 distance and….kept going! It almost felt magical and I finished with no issues. That experience taught me to go after big goals…even when you’re afraid.

I had the goal to run a marathon before I turned 27 and 10 months postpartum. I achieved this goal with Eric’s help. He is an amazing coach. He always kept in good contact with me through the app and texts especially to see how runs went. I also had 2 coaching calls with him, initiated by him which was awesome because it really helped feel on track and I never felt like I was bugging him. That was something I worried about with finding a coach, as this was my first coaching experience. Eric also did a great job teaching me about nutrition during runs so I could complete long distance. Unfortunately, I did sustain an injury during my training, as some runners do, and Eric did an awesome job coaching me through that too, adjusting runs, focusing on how I felt and what effort to put in, and most of all when I thought I might quit, Eric helped me push through. I can’t say enough good things about Eric, he is an amazing coach that I would recommend to anyone and I will be using him in the future to achieve any other running goals.

I used to love running and over the years I fell out of the habit. COVID lock downs definitely did not help in my motivation to stay in shape either. I knew I had to do something about it, but I didn’t know where to start. Just the idea of going for a run stressed me out because it just wasn’t fun for me anymore. Having Eric as a coach really helped keep me on track and kept my expectation of my performance realistic. No one goes for a 3-mile run at an 8-minute pace their first time back after such a long time. We started slow with 1-1.5 mile runs so he could gauge where I was and how to get me to where I needed to be. Surprisingly, each run was pretty easy and before I knew it, I was running 4.5 miles and feeling amazing afterwards. Having that guidance was a big motivator for me to put on my shoes and hit the road even on days when I just felt like taking a nap. No matter what your goal is Eric can curate a running routine that best fits your needs. With 15 years of experience there is no doubt he knows his stuff. I’m planning to do a half marathon soon with him as my coach.

After a long time of living a sedentary lifestyle, Eric met me where I was physically. He started my workouts slow and allowed me to pace myself as the workouts got easier. He offered great tidbits of motivation like podcasts to listen to, social media accounts of runners to follow that I could best relate to and quotes to remember. His workouts were doable and yet challenging. Knowing his experience with running and knowing how serious he is about the lifestyle, I highly recommend Eric for any level of coaching from beginner to experienced.
