SPECIALTIES

I specialize in coaching trail and ultra athletes of all abilities focused on 50k to 100 mile events. In addition to day to day training, I provide guidance to athletes on fueling, choosing appropriate gear and developing strategies for racing before an event.

PHILOSOPHY

First and foremost, I like to create training programs are sustainable for athletes to follow and take into account other commitments in their life. I believe consistent training is the foundation for success at any event. Beyond a consistent foundation, planned periodization and recovery are key for maximizing performance.

Finally, I think it’s important to get specific with training to meet the demands of an event. That includes studying the challenges of an event such as weather and terrain and crafting a plan to prepare for those challenges.

COACHING EXPERIENCE

I’ve been coaching since 2021 and have worked with athletes of all ability levels from around the world. I’ve helped athletes tackle their very first 50k as well as moving up to the 100 mile distance for the first time. I’ve also worked with high level athletes looking to make that next step in performance who are competing at the top end of international competitions.

ABOUT ME

I’m originally from Titusville, Pennsylvania where I grew up running cross country and track and field. I fell in love with trail running in my local state park in high school and ran my first ultra marathon at the age of 17. Shortly after that I won my first 100 mile race in the same state park I learned about trail running in. Since then I’ve lived in Wyoming, Colorado, and for the past 7 years in Flagstaff, Arizona. I love Flagstaff for its proximity to the Grand Canyon and the varied mix of terrain we have that allows me to train for races all over the world. When not running I like to head to a local brewery or catch a round of golf with my friends.

BIG INFLUENCES

I’ve been lucky to learn from some truly phenomenal athletes and coaches in the sport. From my early years in the sport running with Zach Miller and Alex Nichols in Colorado Springs to being coached by Olympians Michael Aish and Steve Spence in my early 20s. Currently, I train with and learn from a variety of world class athletes based in Flagstaff, Arizona.

RACING HISTORY

I’ve competed in every race distance from 800 meters to 100 miles over the past 14 years. Ultra-trail events have been my focus for the past 11 years and have lead me to competing on some of the biggest stages around the world. Some of my highlights include, twice finishing on the podium of the Western States Endurance Run, winning the Lake Sonoma 50 mile and JFK 50 mile, finishing on the podium of The Grand Trail of Templiers in France, and a fifth place finish at the Hong Kong 100k.

Coach J-Rod El legend is the man. Takes into account your injury paranoia, dreams and goals. Feel confident taking training plans from an experienced ultra buck himself. Looking to continue making gains with him. Would recommend any day!

I started working with Jared in March 2024, ahead of a 70km trail race in Japan end April. I had a solid training block ahead of it (and Jared has provided consistent feedback to the training sessions and to my questions), and also got some great advice from Jared in terms of pacing, strategy, nutrition, etc. before the race. I was very happy with the race results – managed to complete 50 min ahead of expectation and finish top 20. I really look forward to continuing working with Jared for my first >100km race this summer in Europe.

I’d highly recommend working with him 🙂

After a very long hiatus, I signed up with Jared to give running another go. After a few months of training, I took M1 at my first race in over 4 years.

I came to Jared with years of experience racing and running, but was concerned about getting back into ultra running shape after such a long break. He addressed my concerns and started me out very slowly to get time on my feet and dial in any issues that could pop up after such a long break (I didn’t run at all from 2019-2023). Not only did my legs come back, they came back with a vengeance. I feel stronger than ever and maybe more importantly, more confident than ever. Jared stays on top of coordinating my work schedule with running and has been very accommodating of my climbing/mountaineering schedule to allow me to incorporate that into my training.

If you’re on the fence about signing up, stop hesitating and make the investment in your health. Whether you’re aiming to finish your first race or running for the podium, you can’t go wrong with Jared and TeamRunRun.

I’ve been working with Jared since January 2023. He came onboard at a time when I had a packed race schedule, busy work hours and some life changing events with the arrival of my first son. Jared has been great. He listens carefully to my needs, is always available and has given me great advice and training plans thus far. With Jared, I have consistently finished in the top 15 on some major international races on the 100 and 50KM distances. We are hoping to get a great result at the UTMB CCC this year and complete a 100 miler by end of the year.

Jared is not only an incredible athlete but also a really great coach. Highly recommend his services!

I started with Jared in January and I’ve seen so much improvement already He is coaching me for a 100 mile race and I am so happy I chose him because I feel confident he will help me get to the start line well prepared. I’m loving the plans he sets for me and also the communication is on point. Always is there if I have a question or concern. I highly recommend him.
