SPECIALTIES
I have experience coaching athletes at all distances and terrains, from 5K to ultramarathons. I’m interested in working with first time half/full marathoners and ultrarunners. I love to work with anyone who has big scary goals and wants break out of their comfort zone and try a new distance or style of racing!
At the end of the day, I enjoy seeing all my athletes push through the struggle and reach goals they thought were impossible.
PHILOSOPHY
I believe that running should be fun and enjoyable, even though it can sometimes be difficult. I meet each of my athletes where they are, both in terms of experience and availability. By doing this, I am able to create realistic training plans that not only work for their goals, but also work into their lives. My training plans are based on consistency, working to build a strong and robust aerobic base, and adding in intensity/workouts strategically to meet each athlete’s individual goals.
When you work with me, you’ll receive a customized training plan, including:
- Weekly detailed programming provided via Final Surge (two weeks of detail at a time)
- Final Surge account (no cost to you)
- Strength training & core workouts
- Warm-up and cool-down routines
- Training and race day nutrition guidance
- Race day preparation and planning help
- Unlimited communication
- Unlimited programming adjustments
COACHING EXPERIENCE
I’ve been coaching since 2019, received my Road Runners Club of America certification in March that year, and started working with Team RunRun in 2020. I have worked with runners of all ages and for all distances, whether a first time 5K on the road or ultra distance trail races. Since I started coaching, I have helped athletes run personal records at all distances, develop the endurance to run ultramarathons, and helped multi-sport athletes incorporate running into their already busy training schedules.
ABOUT ME
I started running in my mid-20s and quickly caught the running bug! Since then, I’ve run countless 5Ks and 10Ks, lots of half marathons, four full marathons, and eventually started to focus mostly on trail and ultra races, with my longest race distance at 65 miles. Along the way, I also found CrossFit in 2015, and I believe that the cross training and lifting has been integral to making me a stronger, more capable runner.
I am also an avid mountain biker and gravel biker, and will often balance my running training with cycling to focus on races in those events as well. In addition to run coaching, I work as a sales manager at a bike and ski shop and coach Crossfit at our local box. I live in Marquette, in Michigan’s upper peninsula with my husband and two cats, Mulder & Scully.
BIG INFLUENCES
Jack Daniels training methodology has influenced by programming, as well as the 80/20 rule of training intensity (for both running and strength training). I have also been influenced by the running/life philosophies of coaches like David and Megan Roche and Jason Koop, as well as the way many athletes I follow, like Courtney Dauwalter and Gary Robbins, truly enjoy running and the way that it enriches their lives.

Brenda Beaudoin –
I’ve been running on my own for about 10 years and have done several half marathons and short races , I’ve been happy with my overall finishes. But I have had a goal to do a full marathon for several years and have just not been able to push myself to get there. Jessica has been amazing giving me new challenges, and is always so quick to respond to any questions or concerns. My training is still a work in progress but I see myself getting to that marathon 2024 goal.
Bee Haddad –
Jessica is a wholesome and kind and wonderful coach! She is so understanding when life stuff comes up, and always offers me sound advice on how to proceed when it does. She’s built me a plan that suitable for my abilities, yet she challenges me to go a little farther than I think I can. Highly recommend working with Jessica if you want someone responsive, communicative, experienced and knowledgeable. I see myself working with Jessica for a while!
Yvonne Leaf –
I have thoroughly enjoyed having Jessica as my running coach . She is a gifted trainer who is helping me reach my goal of running my first marathon. Her weekly running plans are fun, challenging and achievable. Jessica is always on time in sending out new schedules for the week. She responds quickly to questions, giving guidance as needed. When I asked for help doing core work , she quickly responded with a plan.
I highly recommend Jessica as a running coach, and look forward to continuing with her on this running journey of a Marathon this September.
Thank you Jessica! You are the Best!

Jessica is my second running coach that I’ve hired and I have to say she has been phenomenal! The workouts are fun and exactly what I was looking for. After discussing with her what my goals were, she plans things out accordingly and has been a great motivator. My first race this year went so great, thanks to her exceptional coaching. I plan to run a full this year and keep it going with a trail 50k next year! Coaching with Jessica has given me a lot of confidence that i can get faster and stronger for these races!
Chelsea Cutright –
The short version: I set a goal to do my first marathon. With Jessica’s expert guidance, I trained WITHOUT INJURY and completed my first marathon an hour faster than I expected.
The longer version: Jessica has been so extremely understanding with my always changing schedule. Most importantly, however, she has been consistently supportive through some mental health/overly stressed periods where I essentially quit doing what I was supposed to be doing in terms of training. She always adjusted the plan to allow me some space and gently encouraged me to keep going.
Danielle La Londe –
Jessica has been a great running coach these past two months! Her training plan for my first ever marathon has been very effective and she checks in on me regularly and replies to questions quickly. I’m injury free and meeting my pacing targets. I highly recommend her!
Kelly Woods –
Jessica is wonderful! She coached me through preparation for my first ever off-road triathlon sprint during recovery from ACL surgery, and with awareness of mental health issues I have around exercise and ADHD. I’ll be continuing to work with her for swimming endurance and am very excited for it! Go Jess Go!
Ruby –
Jessica’s training has been life changing for me. I thought I would never run again after I tried to return to running without a trainer. Jessica has been wonderful in slowly getting me back to a running regime and encouraging me every step of the way. I look forward to the runs scheduled for me each week, and each week I improve my running time and speed.
I used to think my marathon days were behind, not any more! So excited for my running future thanks to Jessica.
Ariel Ryan –
I cannot imagine taking on a new running challenge ever again without Jessica on board as my coach. She is the reassurance, accountability, and cheer leading I need! I haven’t doubted one bit of the programming she’s created for me and my goals, and that takes such a mental burden off of the training journey. I’m enjoying the process more than I think I ever have across the years and many races I’ve run before!
Tina Eberhart –
I have trained with Jessica for nearly 6 months and am amazed at my injury-free progress! She is always willing to work with my changing schedule. Even though I used to run, I was very much out of shape when signed up with her, and now I consider 6miles an easy run. I’m so thankful for her motivation!
Katrina Panzlau –
I’ve been so happy with Jessica as my coach! When I was first looking for a coach, I really liked that she came to running a little later in life like me, and she was very relatable in general. I am training for my very first marathon and coming off a running hiatus, so I was very nervous to commit to doing it. Jessica was very encouraging in the beginning when I was unsure about doing the marathon and assured me it’s possible. She has been very responsive via text and through Final Surge, and is very flexible with my busy schedule and the busy summer months. Highly recommend choosing Jessica as your coach!
Sree Lanka –
Jessica is the best running coach! I give the credit of my first full marathon run to her. I am not a runner but I really wanted to do a full marathon. She gave me the confidence that I can do it and set up a plan for me. She often checked on how my body was responding and modified the plan to work with my physical levels and my crazy family schedule. She is just a message or call away and is very responsive and has great advice for me. I highly recommend Jessica! Best Coach!
Chelsea Lonsdale –
After running casually for a few months and with winter temperatures threatening my motivation, I decided to hire a running coach for accountability and improved training. I’m happy to share that Jessica has been absolutely wonderful! The weekly training plans she creates for me incorporate bodyweight training at home and running 4x/week to help me prepare for my first half-marathon. I wasn’t sure what to expect at first, but it has been so good for me to have the planning in someone else’s hands! Jessica is knowledgeable, flexible, encouraging, and inspiring. I’ve already recommended her to a few friends!
Liza –
I’ve greatly enjoyed working with Jessica. My training has gone from irregular and disorganized to fun and focused, and I’m running stronger than I have in a long time. When I’ve asked for tweaks or a swapping out days, she immediately responded to my request. She is also extremely patient with my strange schedule due to traveling, coronavirus and quarantine, and at times I can imagine she is just as frustrated as I am, but she never let it show. I hope I get to continue working with her for a long time to come.
Lori Thienel –
In my mid 50s, I started trail running with a local group (1 x per week, 2-3 miles per week), not much but it was enough to make me passionate about running through the woods. After winning a lottery to enter my 1st race (10k), I knew I needed to run more, eat more and basically get fit. Then COVID hit and my running pretty much stopped, I was missing the camaraderie of my friends. After months of contemplating on whether or not to hire a running coach, I finally decided to just go for it. Hours of on-line research became very frustrating, as I was looking for the “perfect plan” without really knowing what I needed, then I found Team RunRun & Jessica. Jessica is my “perfect plan” and has been instrumental in getting me back on the trails with her expertise in running and teaching me how to be a strong runner. Friday, the 13th came along and I broke my ankle, my trail running has obviously come to a screeching halt for a while. Jessica gave me 2 options:
1) to put my account on pause
2) take this opportunity to focus on strength work (depending on what the Dr. said)
She did not give up on me, she made me realize that I could still work toward being strong and being strong brings confidence! I am choosing strength work.
If you have any doubts about a running coach, don’t just walk away, don’t give up, run toward your goals! I highly recommend Jessica.
Jonathan Gardner –
I can’t say enough good things about Jessica as a coach. I came to her with a fairly lengthy running history. I’ve probably been running races longer and run more races than Jessica but that can only take me so far. Jessica has the knowledge I was lacking to help me improve, even excel. She is remarkably supportive and accessible. She is always able to work around what I’ve got going on in my life and adjusts the training plan to best support what I have coming up.
Since I’ve started working with Jessica I’ve set PRs on almost every distance from 400m through 50k. I didn’t know what to expect when I started but I’m so glad I did.
Hazel Shin –
I trained with Jessica for half a year. She always responded to my questions in short period of time (usually within 4~6 hours via email) and was very attentive to my running condition. If I set my running status as hard/challenging she immediately contacted me to ask more detail. Then she would set the next schedule reflecting my comments. I really enjoyed training with her, because she set challenges that made me feel more confident about running.
David Lloyd –
Jess is an awesome running coach! She is very good at listening to my issues and adjusting my training. I mentioned I was having issues with my ankle and she put together some exercises to help me build core strength and help prevent those issues in the future. When my life gets to busy or I fall behind she is helps me adapt and makes suggestions. I cannot recommend her enough.
Rachel Lipson –
Jess is a great coach! She is responsive, understanding, and great at helping achieve goals–running and general athletics. She has tailored a running program to build my miles and avoid injury, at the same time soliciting my input as to what kind of workouts I enjoy and can fit into my schedule. Sometimes life happens and she rolls with the punches and adapts my schedule to reflect this. She has always been fast to respond, and with good advice and sometimes commiseration. I’ve had some of my best running experiences running with her (and I’ve been lucky enough to do so in person). It’s very motivating to work with someone so down-to-earth as well as an incredible athlete in her own right.
Alli Harju –
Jessica has been the most amazing running coach! I started out with little to no running experience, and she’s helped me work up to a half marathon and eventually a trail marathon and farther! She responds quickly to messages and has been able to work with me to accommodate my busy schedule and needed mental and physical health breaks. She is also always there to give me advice and recommendations for equipment and logistics of trail running. Highly recommend Jessica!
