SPECIALTIES
I enjoy helping others achieve their goals — whether it be a new runner in a first 5k or an experienced runner doing their first ultra marathon. My focus is on training road and trail for all levels of runners (and walkers!), any distance.
PHILOSOPHY
I consider my coaching style to be fluid — I work with each athlete as an individual. My job as a coach is to coach the INDIVIDUAL. I do not make one training plan that applies to all my athletes. I develop each training plan according to each individual person, their history, their needs, their goals. I adjust it as they go, based on each person’s adaptation to training and their life schedule. My holistic focus encompasses training, strength & mobility development, prehab routines, nutrition, mindset, strategy and racing. My coaching philosophy is to have fun, work hard, and achieve balance.
COACHING EXPERIENCE
I have been running my entire life, and coaching unofficially along the way. I became a certified coach in 2020. I have coached all levels of adult runners in distances from 5km through ultramarathon.
ABOUT ME
My name is Karin, and in many circles, I’m known as Happy Mama. I am known for using quotes to motivate and inspire others. You will rarely see me without my braids and a visor. I’m 48 years old and a mama of 2 (ages 10 and 7). In addition to running, I also train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
BIG INFLUENCES
My cross country coach was absolutely the most influential person in my youth as far as athletics. Coach Holm ran every practice (he was in his early 50s then and in his 80s now!), and was the most fit person I knew. He always hosted an end of season spaghetti dinner at his house, where we gathered to share season highlights and stories. He made you feel special no matter if you were a podium chaser or the one who just showed up every meet.
Today, my greatest influences are other runners and coaches:
- My coach, Jacob Puzey, has been instrumental in molding me into the runner and person I am today.
- Michele Graglia has had a profound impact on my approach to running, yoga, mindfulness, life. He has been exceptionally important in helping being fully present and enjoying the moments when I train and coach.
- Jason Green, who entered my life during the pandemic, and has inspired me to do things I never thought I could.
- Adam Kimble, who is humble, kind, and has an amazing approach to running, training, racing and life.
- Jeff Browning, who proves daily that age is just a number.
- Sally McRae, who has guided me in how to Choose Strong.
- My dear friend Mike, who has accomplished amazing things for the most admirable reasons, while maintaining strength through adversity.
- And I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the one and only Tommy, who is my biggest WHY, and also gave me permission to eat all the ice cream.

Eric Rivera –
I have been working with Karin for 2 months as I prepare for my first full marathon. Karin has been a pleasure to be coached by. She is knowledgeable and has programmed quality workouts. I love that Karin is open to me participating in local running clubs and encourages me to sign up for shorter distance races. She provides a video for any workout that may be new to me and that is helpful. I look forward to working with Karin.
