Running Coach Description
I’m a Toronto-based UESCA-certified coach helping busy professionals bridge the gap between flat city streets and technical mountain ultras.
I believe training should enhance your life, not consume it. My approach is built on the “athlete as a person first” principle, focusing on longevity and the sustainable balance of career, family, and high-performance endurance. Whether you are training for your first 50K or a technical 200K, I provide weekly, data-driven training blocks that adapt to your recovery and real-time schedule.
We will focus on the technical logistics – from mastering fueling strategies to building mountain-ready power in an urban gym. Having immigrated to Canada alone and found my home in the trail community, I bring that same resilience and dedication to studying every detail of your preparation.
If you are looking for a clear plan that prioritizes your health and consistency while preparing you for the technical demands of the trails, I’d be glad to work together.

Philosophy
I believe in putting you as a person first. Training for a major ultra – whether it’s a 50K or a 200K – should be something that adds to your life, not something that burns you out. Living and working in a busy city myself, I know exactly how hard it can be to balance a career and travel with mountain training.
My approach is simple and flexible: we map out your long-term goals together, and then I build your training in bi-weekly blocks. Every week, I check your workout notes and recovery data to tweak the next plan. This keeps you moving forward at a pace that actually works for your body and your schedule, preventing overtraining. My goal is to get you to the start line healthy, prepared, and ready to truly enjoy the beauty of the trails.
Coaching Experience
I’m a UESCA-certified coach who is beginning my professional practice with a high level of dedication and an eagerness to help others reach their peak performance. While I’m currently building my initial roster of athletes, I bring years of intensive personal experience competing in ultramarathons ranging from 50K to 200K on both technical mountain trails and roads.
My racing history includes demanding events such as the UTMB Whistler 70K and self-directed 200K multi-day project. I’m committed to investing significant time into studying the unique data and lifestyle of each athlete I work with, ensuring that I provide the most thorough and personalized preparation possible for your next race.
About Me
I was born and raised in Crimea, Ukraine, where I spent much of my life playing sports, specifically windsurfing, which built a strong foundational base for my endurance. I began running for fun at the age of 15 and transitioned into the world of ultramarathons about four years ago.
One of the most defining moments of my life was making the decision, almost overnight, to immigrate to Canada on my own – a choice that was incredibly difficult but ultimately the best I’ve ever made. Navigating a new country alone was a challenge, but the trail running community kept me happy and provided the support I needed to keep moving forward. Today, I’m passionate about sharing that same sense of community and the beauty of the trails with fellow urban-dwellers training for their next big adventure.
Big Influences
My coaching is heavily influenced by Jason Koop, who teaches that a foundation of genuine care for the athlete is what makes a coach truly effective. I align with this philosophy by dedicating significant time to studying each runner’s unique data and lifestyle to provide the best possible race preparation.
Race History
Some examples of races that I’ve competed at:
- UTMB Whistler 70K (2024) – Navigated 4,000m of elevation gain using a 60–90g/hr carb strategy and hiking power built on a StairMaster.
- 200K Toronto Road Project (2025) – Covered 200K in 3 days (75K/75K/50K), though an untested shoe change on day 2 led to a left shin splint.
- Hamilton to Toronto 70K – Completed a successful self-supported solo run, managing all independent nutrition, hydration, and navigation.
- Niagara 80K Ultramarathon (2024) – Finished this distance to demonstrate sustained speed and endurance on a flatter course.
- Local Ontario Marathons & Half-Marathons – Consistently placed in the Top-10 across various trail and road races in the province.

Tom Akkerman –
I started working with Kosta because I wanted to become a stronger trail runner and prepare for my next ultra. After experiencing hip and knee pain during my last race, I knew I needed a more thoughtful approach to training.
What I appreciate most is that Kosta looks at the bigger picture. He takes my work schedule, the hilly terrain where I live, and how my body is responding into account when planning training. That gives me confidence that each session has a purpose, whether it’s a hard workout or a day to ease back. I’m learning to train with more patience and intention, and I’m excited to see what I can do at my next race.

Working with Kosta has been a huge help. He is extremely flexible and works around your schedule, offering incredible insight on how to build and improve with whatever time you have available.
Beyond training, he dives deep into race-day execution—analyzing elevation profiles, crafting smart pace strategies, and highlighting variables you wouldn’t even think of. He is immensely encouraging, supportive, detailed oriented and proactive. Kosta keeps you fully dialed in and focused on your goals. It was a pleasure to work with him and I couldn’t ask for more from a coach!
Hannah Schauerte –
I’m training for my first ultra and honestly couldn’t imagine doing it without Kosta’s guidance and knowledge. I feel so supported throughout the process and have learned so much from him already. He’s an amazing teacher, communicator, and coach who is always checking in and tailoring my training to fit my busy schedule. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience heading into my first race!!

Kosta is knowledgeable, committed, and very responsive. I started working with Kosta after running a difficult ultra with nagging injuries. Kosta has been very effective at adjusting and accommodating so that I maximise performance and minimise risk of injury. There has been significant improvement. I am now running with joy and renewed energy, and I am very much looking forward to my next race. Highly recommended.
