PHILOSOPHY

My coaching takes a holistic approach and helps the ‘time crunched’ runner who wants to run anything from 5k to 100miles, trails, ultras and other events without high mileage weeks. With strength and conditioning sessions personalised to you, your equipment and your time, all programs are designed around quality over quantity with the aim to keep it simple and keep it real. My coaching also includes mindset coaching which helps overcome any limiting beliefs or barriers to training, racing and life in general by implementing strategies that can change your perceptions to limiting beliefs and create new and beneficial habits in the process.

COACHING EXPERIENCE

  • Personal training in a gym
  • Designed and ran a 12 week RunFit strength and conditioning course to all levels.
  • Online mindset coaching and life coaching

ABOUT ME

Running is in my blood and my soul. From my early days of sprinting, 800m, 1500m and cross-country, to half marathons, marathons and ultras in New Zealand, Ireland and the UK, I have always had a passion for running and adventures. During the COVID pandemic and subsequent lockdowns I decided to tap into my wealth of experience and retrain as a Personal Trainer, Mindset Coach and Life Coach with the ultimate goal to help people achieve their goals through physical training, mindset training and better life choices.

Most of my achievements have occurred while working full-time as a landscaper or stone mason and around family time. This has helped me hone my skills towards training smarter, putting quality of training over quantity. I soon realised we all have the same amount of hours in a day, it’s how we use them. With me as your coach you will come to learn that there really are no excuses.

At 50 years of age, I am the fittest I have ever been and still able to complete events in the top quarter (and occasionally top 10 with a recent 3rd overall placing in a coastal ultra) from half marathons to 100 miles. I put this down to; quality/smarter training, strong mindset and healthy lifestyle.

BIG INFLUENCES

I like to use training aids to monitor a clients progress but also believe that the client needs to listen to their body. I encourage, through various strategies, clients to embark on a journey of self exploration that will ultimately help them reach their full potential. Matt Fitzgerald has helped me understand my body better, it’s likes, limits and to trust my instincts.

I also like to follow the 80/20 rule and monitor the impact high intensity training has on a clients body as we all react differently to physical stress.

Mobility, Strength and Conditioning and mindset coaching are integral to success and helping you to keep running injury free well into old age.

I’ve been training with Marcus for two months, returning to running after a very long break and with an uphill task ahead of me as an unfit 50+. Working with Marcus has been great. The program he developed for me is designed to fit around my lifestyle and has a weekly mix of two easy runs, one speed session and a long run (with most runs very easy pace in zone 2); but most importantly short mobility and strength exercises which have ensured I have been able to progress without injury and without much fatigue. I’ve been delighted with my results and have been able to be consistent for the first time in years: I put this down to the program and the weekly check-ins and monthly review with Marcus to ensure accountability and iron out any concerns or issues. I would highly recommend Marcus – he’s great at checking in, very supportive, knows his stuff and communicates it very well, and above all is a really nice guy!
