SPECIALTIES

From middle distance track events to ultra trail races and FKT attempts I specialize in mentoring athletes in their pursuit of excellence while avoiding common pitfalls and repetitive injury cycles.

PHILOSOPHY

No single approach to the optimization of an endurance athlete can be effectively applied to an entire population – every athlete is different; all training must be adapted to the unique needs of the athlete! I draw my coaching philosophy from years of exposure to a broad spectrum of training methodologies.

Driven by science and years of experience, I provide individualized coaching and training programming tailored to the specific needs of the athlete. This optimizes the training experience to help them reach their full potential. Regular communication and consistent evaluation results in constant adaptation of the training prescription.

A mature, self-aware athlete is far more successful in pursuing excellence. I believe that great coaching results in an athlete that has developed an elevated level of maturity, intelligence, autonomy, and autoregulation of their athletic efforts and I strive to develop these qualities in the athletes I work with.

COACHING EXPERIENCE

My coaching experience has grown from years of teaching yoga and 1-on-1 coaching of individuals, to coaching Division II NCAA track and cross country, competitive mountain runners, and professional Spartan racers. This experience is bolstered by a Masters in Exercise Science from Western Washington University, a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification from the NSCA, and a United States Weight Lifting (USAW) level 1 coaching certification.

ABOUT ME

I have accumulated over 20 years of experience as an endurance athlete covering the spectrum from competitive running and cycling at a national level to pursuing big wall climbing and alpinism in the greater ranges of North America. I have been fortunate enough to participate in elite level racing on 3 continents and continue to find stoke in finding my limits as I move into my Master’s racing career and pursue bigger and higher objectives in the most beautiful mountain ranges of the world.

BIG INFLUENCES

Much of my endurance sports career and coaching has been heavily influenced by voices that bridge the gap between science and coaching, notably Dr. Jack Daniels and Steve Magness, as well as the voices of Mark Twilight and Steve House which have illuminated murky subjects in the endurance world. Additionally, I feel the most influential forces in my athletic career and life have been the countless coaches and incredible athletes I have personally interfaced with or competed against; the nameless, faceless grass-roots heroes of endurance sports around the globe.
