3 Bests – What aspects of the race did you like the most?

The VIBES, location, and race weekend activations.

Not so much – Aspects of the race that didn’t do it for you

Crowd support could have been better. There were enthusiastic cheer zones at several points along the course, but when you were not passing a cheer zone it felt a little too quiet for my liking. I prefer continuous crowd support whenever possible!

Highlights of your race – What did you do well and enjoy about your race in particular?

The atmosphere surrounding this race was really electric. Not your average race expo! There were fun activations like outdoor yoga classes, a live taping of the Ali On The Run podcast, hair braiding and nail art stations, great free swag as well as a big showcase store with more for purchase, and a lot more. Then post-race each finisher received a boxed brunch and there was an awesome recovery zone where you could get a 15-minute massage, use compression boots for 10 minutes, or stretch and roll out. The medal design is super cool too!

Aesthetics – Is it a pretty course?

Yes! Vancouver is beautiful and many miles of this race are along the scenic Sea Wall.

Difficulty – Is it a tough course?

Not the worst but not easy. Some rolling hills and a handful of spots (both uphill and downhill) that were steep.

Organized and well run – Did it feel like a well-oiled machine or were they flying by the seat of their pants?

Very well organized!

Competition – Is there a strong field?

Seemed more geared towards middle-of-the-pack and back-of-the-pack runners, with most finishers in the 2:00 – 2:30 range. There were a handful of elites running. Phily Bowden won the women’s race in 1:14.

Logistics – Does it require a special handshake, registration a year in advance, hotels all booked? Give us the low down on the nuts and bolts of making the race happen.

Lottery to enter and high entry price. The lottery took place in February for an August race.

Aid Stations – Standard fare or anything special to know about the aid stations in terms of what’s available or when?

7 aid stations with water and electrolytes. Also a few spots with energy bars. Good amount of bathroom opportunities along the course.

Weather and typical race conditions

Start time 7:00am. Was cool and cloudy at the start then warm/sunny as the day progressed. Temps in the 60s – low 70s.

How’s the Swag?

A+

The Overall Score – How many stars do you give this race and do you recommend that others run it?

8/10! I had a great time in Vancouver for this race. It was the return of SeaWheeze after a 7-year hiatus. I hope that in future years the word will get out more and crowd support will continue to improve.
