3 Bests – What aspects of the race did you like the most?

Super easy package pick-up the morning of with plenty of parking, it’s a small local race, and it is flat and fast. Very good for training purpose if you have a race in a month or so.

Not so much – Aspects of the race that didn’t do it for you

Other than it is your typical January weather with rain, I can’t think of anything else that I don’t like.

Highlights of your race – What did you do well and enjoy about your race in particular?

This is a birthday present from my daughter to run it with her. We strategized in the beginning and decided what pace we are going to run it. We had a great time for the first 10 miles, talking and laughing. When I asked her if she could do faster on her last 5K and she said she could, things got even more exciting. We picked up the pace together and even passed so many people. Although she didn’t think she could do better than her last HM, to her surprised she hit a PR!

Lessons Learned – Share your pro-tips on the race to help the next runner or yourself on the next time around

When you have your mind set you can make it happen. Stick with the plan then dig deeper towards the end.

Most important course specific knowledge to know about the race

This course requires you to run a loop first at Marymoor Park before you headed out to Sammamish River Trail. The loop can get very muddy even though it is a gravel trail. If you are going to run it fast position yourself up front. The loop is small and will make it harder for you to pass people in the beginning.

Organized and well run – Did it feel like a well-oiled machine or were they flying by the seat of their pants?

It is a well organized race.

Logistics – Anything special regarding getting to/from the race, hotels around the course, registration…?

Super easy to register online but it sells out, so plan accordingly. The BIB pick up in the morning of is also super easy and fast.

Weather and typical race conditions

Typically it rains (Rain Run .. duh) but we got lucky this weekend it didn’t rain and was in high 40’s.

Spectators – Is this a friendly course for your friends?

Super friendly course for your friends/family. So many access through out the trail.

How’s the swag?

A flannel blanket, which is nice for after the race, and cupcakes along with the usual fruits and drinks at the end.

The Overall Score – How many stars do you give this race and do you recommend that others run it?

I will give this a 5 out of 5. Next year I may use this as a training race run in the winter.
