3 Bests – What aspects of the race did you like the most?

  • On course entertainment
  • The finish line location
  • The medals

Not so much – Aspects of the race that didn’t do it for you

The expo was small and didn’t have many vendors. Running on the board walk, while it was unique it was too long and the wood cause foot pain and threw off my vision.

Highlights of your race – What did you do well and enjoy about your race in particular?

For being the first year really didn’t have very many issues other than having to change the start due to flooding. Well they did take away the certification of the course it was nice that the race kept runner safety in mind over other factors. The views are beautiful and the on course entertainment was really motivating and energetic. The bands were fun and entertaining as well.

Lessons for others – Share your pro-tips on the race to help the next runner

If they keep the course the same maybe practice running on the boardwalk. Running on the wood definitely hurts feet and causes shin splints from what I hear. The sun reflecting off the wood from the boardwalk also threw us vision and made it kind of hard when facing the sun straight on. Meet up on the road if you think you may slow down on the boardwalk. It was definitely not comfortable running on the boardwalk and my miles on it which are about the last 4 miles did slow down.

Lessons you learned that will help you next time around

Gain speed in the first 8 miles before getting to the boardwalk since I slow down while running on the boardwalk I lost about six seconds per mile we’re running on it we’re having to adjust my running in stride as to not fall on the wood and just from the weird feeling it felt with every step on it.

Most important course specific knowledge to know about the race

Practice running on wood or wooden surfaces the boardwalk while it is beautiful can’t throw you off.

Aesthetics – Is it a pretty course?

The last 4 miles along the boardwalk looking at the ocean were beautiful when the fog wasn’t there. it was nice to run along the casinos and see the crowd cheering

Difficulty – Is it a tough course?

It is not a difficult course very flat mainly asphalt except while running on the boardwalk.

Organized and well run – Did it feel like a well-oiled machine or were they flying by the seat of their pants?

For walking roll race it was organized well. Well they did not have the heavy medals for some of the participants it was still overall organized.

Competition – Is there a strong field?

It was a pretty competitive field for being a small field. They only anticipated about 5000 runners.

Several aid stations offering electrolytes and water. Two had fuel at them.
